25.01.2022 What an effort! I-MED Radiology Network is supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month this year by donating $4 from every mammogram in October to breast cancer research. I-MED expect to perform 7,500 mammograms this month, so about $30,000 will go towards breast cancer research, awareness and improved treatments for women diagnosed. 15.01.2022 It's Cervical Cancer Week and we asked the incredible A/Prof Rhonda Farrell (Gynaecological Oncologist and Pelvic Surgeon) where we are in eradicating this disease. "Cancer of the cervix (cervical cancer) is the fourth most common cancer in women around the world and causes over 300,000 deaths annually. "Almost all (over 99%) of cases are caused by an infection with human papilloma virus (HPV), a common virus transmitted through sexual contact. The Cancer Council Australia's annual Pink Ribbon campaign raises funds for breast cancer as well as gynaecological cancers like ovarian, cervical and uterine cancers. Every day, around 65 Australian women are told they have breast or gynaecological cancer, so the work of the Cancer Council has never been more important. ... Dr Vivek Arora, Gynaecologist and Gynaecological Oncologist, treats a variety of women's cancers here at Prince of Wales Private Hospital. He believes it is now time to support women cope with the long-term effects of their experience with cancer. "Gynaecological cancers and their treatment have a long lasting impact on quality of life and can alter the perception of self in a woman. "It is a long journey and women need support in adjusting to the ‘new normal’. It is imperative that treatment options and future research look beyond cure rates and focus on cancer survivorship right at the start of the treatment journey." Three days per week, Geeta is the Ward Educator, supporting the nursing team to provide exceptional care to our patients - many who have complex needs. By 2022, it is estimated that 6.2 million... Australians older than 50 years of age will have osteoporosis, a rise of 31% from 2012. This World Osteoporosis Day we encourage you to take some simple steps to decrease your risk of osteoporosis: * exercise daily, such as walking * check your calcium and vitamin D intake * stop smoking * limit your alcohol consumption. 02.01.2022 That's right, we're renovating. Our postnatal ward and delivery suite are currently undergoing a much-needed face-lift. Come August 2021, our Hospital will offer birthing mums and partners hotel-style private maternity facilities in the eastern suburbs of Sydney! In the meantime, renovations will occur in stages so we can continue to deliver all our usual services. We have also taken care to ensure that impacts on current patients are kept to a minimum, with staff mobilise...d to address any issues or additional needs.
