21.01.2022 Switching Off . Working from home, I've found the hardest aspect to manage is reigning in my working hours in time to settle down for a calm evening and a good nights sleep. Its just too easy to pull out the laptop after dinner (just to check a quick email of course) and ending up working until way past bedtime. This means I struggle falling asleep and sleep even LESS. . To unwind better, my top tips are:... No caffeine after lunch (this was a MASSIVE change for me. I love coffee so much that I used to have a cup at bedtime) . Invest in blue light filtering glasses . Water, water, and more water . Meditating - try @headspace if youre not sure how to get into it . Be strict!! Dont let your work hours creep over into personal time if its not an emergency . 15.01.2022 Sydney was a blast. I do miss working in an office and amongst a (physical) team. Its easy to forget the things that irk you about office life when you're only back for a week... but my least favorite part must surely be no-one owning up to refilling the printer with paper!... Favorite things might be a close call between a number of things. Good coffee being one of them. Thank you @cafe_154 for fueling my 6AM starts. Here are some of our top tips on how to stay focused on your goals: Avoid multitasking, trying to do a million things at once is seldom successful. Focus on one task at a time. Keep reminding yourself of your ultimate goals.... Create a to-do-list with steps you need to complete in order to reach your goal. Block out your day, or a specific time slot in your day to do a specific task. Meditate to regain focus after a busy day.

11.01.2022 I haven't been feeling my sparkliest self this year. I reached out to some fellow business owners for their ideas and advice on buffing up on my sparkles and energy again. Their answers? Consistently - "Remember to practice self-care" I'll be honest, I was disappointed. Because I HAVE been taking care of myself.... Haven't I? I mean, the glass or three of wine on the couch after a hectic day - that's self-care right? The bedtime scrolling through Facebook to take my mind off work - that's self-care right? And I started to realise that maybe, just maybe, my perception of self-care isn't resulting in me being cared for particularly well. So, I've taken a new approach, which includes being: Caffeine Free Dairy Free Alcohol Free Gluten Free How is it going so far? Terrible! I feel like a zombie! A very magical sparkly zombie at least. My lesson from this - self-care SUCKS. It's not the easy escapes and glimmers of instant gratification that make up the best self-care. Its the HARD stuff - kale smoothies and spending time outside every day. What is your go-to self-care strategy? What rituals do you love and which ones SUCK? (PS If you're dealing with me over the next few days please be gentle - I haven't had coffee or wine!)

03.01.2022 No-one likes filing Okay that’s a lie. I do. I LOVE filing! But I would not have felt as enamoured if my files weren’t well structured and pretty. . Here are my top rules for keeping a sparkly electronic filing system: .... DON’T SAVE ON YOUR DESKTOP Rookie mistake number one. Don’t do it. Just don’t. It will end up taking double the time opening, assessing and moving files from your desktop then just saving them in the right place to start with. You’re not saving time by doing a quick save to desktop. Stop doing it straight away - no excuses. . Decide On A File Structure Whether your top-level files are organised by date, category or alphabetical value is up to you, but make sure to have a defined rule from the start to avoid contradicting or confusing folders. . Decide On A Naming Convention A popular method is to name your files by YYYY-MM-DD_FILENAME. That way the files in whatever folder you are browsing through, will be in chronological, the alphabetic order. . Number Your Folders If you have a lot of folders in a single level, consider adding numbers in front of the folder names (according to priority). This will automically arrange your folders from most important or most frequently used, to least important. PS This works a treat with e-mail folders too. . Make It Fun Use customized file icons to colour code your folders, or just to make them a little bit more fun to work with. . What are your golden rules for keeping filing clean and fun? . 02.01.2022 So this morning I decided to make pancakes for the family as a treat. From scratch. It’s a tried and tested recipe so I wasn’t really worried that anything would go wrong. But as luck would have it everything did go wrong. I have flipped pancakes a thousand times before in my life. But this just did not work! I checked and rechecked the recipe - maybe I forgot something? That wasn’t it. ... Standing there, cursing under my breath, I realised I have this huge bowl of batter. My only choice was to push through and make the pancakes. No matter how deformed they looked in the end! And just to top it off - the last two pancakes turned out PERFECT. Like really perfect. So you’re reading this and probably wondering what’s the point? Well as cheesy as it may sound, I realised that no matter how well you plan for something or how well prepared you are for a situation in life - sometimes thing just don’t go as planned. But that doesn’t mean that your plan won’t work out in the end - you just need to push through the bad times to reach your goals, and sometimes, thing will work out even better than you could have imagined!
