24.01.2022 Oodles of sketches and drawings over the years have finally translated into prints with these new card offerings using the subtle style of embossing. These designs have been carved from lino and with dampened paper you get a nice impression once pressed. Embossing produces a lasting and beautiful mark on paper.

22.01.2022 So great to be back in the studio meeting some wonderful folk and creating to my heart’s content. Print/Maker is located in Kelly’s Lane at the start of Kelly’s Steps, along the Salamanca strip and part of Salamanca Arts Centre. Come visit. Come watch me create. Come check out my prints and paper treats, and design in ply pieces by my talented partner, exmarksthespotdesign. ... #buyhandmade #justalittlegraphic #buyfromthemaker See more

20.01.2022 Waking up to a balmy 3 degrees and driving to the studio first with foggy grey skies to all of a sudden bright blue skies and a decent frost, it seemed fitting to past a few of the ‘Winter’s Day 2020’ prints now up in the window of the studio.

20.01.2022 New printed treats hanging out to dry

20.01.2022 The Beacon Still sentinels to the daylight Becoming shining beacons in the dark Not harbingers of danger but hope in a time of despair A time to take a breath and come up for air amidst the doom and gloom... To let the mountains tower above you and let the rivers flow over and through you Slow time to a crawl and watch for the slow motion flicker of the warm glimmering candle light Day night / light dark / on off / here gone / good bad / right wrong / hope despair #covid_19 #installationart #light #thebeacon #inthedarknessthereislight #candlelight #art #sculpture #tasmanianartist #tasmanianart #salamancatasmania #salamancaartscentre #printmakerstudio #printmaking #objectdesign #exmarksthespotdesign #catherinerogersprintmaking #linocutprint #shoji #plywood See more

18.01.2022 Hello July! My favourite month, smack bang in the heart of winter. Snow, frost, crisp blue sky days... My little hand stamped 2020 calendar pictured here. The 2021 calendar is slowly taking shape with a few ideas sketched out.

17.01.2022 A sneak peek at the 2021 calendar... A few minor changes to make before I hit the ‘print’ button and have it available next week. #bringon2021 #alwaysinspiredbynature

16.01.2022 Delighted that this print, Facets, was selected for the Shape/Shift exhibition at Through This Lens Gallery in the USA, opening today/tomorrow. Facets is a linocut print inspired by the dolerite cliffs scattered around Tasmania, particularly the faceted cutting of rock at Vinces Saddle I have the pleasure of seeing on my journey between Hobart and the Huon Valley most days. It’s a little sad in these times that I won’t be able to get to see it hanging in person nor the works... of other artists in the show. Thanks to The Hand Magazine in the US for selecting my work (and the gallery for supporting printmaking). A hand printed edition of Facets is hanging proudly in Print/Maker.

16.01.2022 Meet the maker. This is Mark of @exmarksthespotdesign. Here he is with the keyhole side tables he made recently. Mark studied fine arts at UTAS and majored in design. He was selected by Dark Mofo in 2017 to design and make 35 skelestools for the Winter Feast.... Mark’s design interest is in ply, a timber he fell in love with at uni. While ply is sought for its utility it was back then, and perhaps still now, overlooked for its beauty. Mark has designed and made a precious set of planning drawers for me (for all my printmaking paper), an array of tables, stools and most recently, screens. While he has a few commissions this year, his biggest one will be a lounge suite for us (). Oh and it’s Mark’s birthday today. Happiest of birthdays Mark xx #tasmaniandesigner

15.01.2022 A trip to Iceland three years ago, almost to the day, sparked this linocut print called Fractured Impressions. This print provides glimpses into Iceland’s landscape, perhaps the most wonderful place I’ve been to. A cracked, scarred landscape of glaciers, volcanoes and rock formations against the most brilliant fields of green. Iceland is simply mesmerising and paradise for a printmaker like me. All of my prints are small editions, the most being five. Only two prints of this linocut left.

14.01.2022 Did someone say birthday? Gifts big and small. Available online and inside our space...

14.01.2022 Now hanging in Print/Maker... Scribbly Tales from Bruny is a linocut printed by hand with a baren onto textured Japanese washi. It is a large print (46.5x60cm) made late last year. The inspiration came from all the crazy beautiful marks carved by the eucalyptus longhorned borer beetle, an invasive pest that attacks eucalyptus trees under stress. Such a naughty creature but such lovely mark making.

14.01.2022 Some new nature gift tags printed and now in Print/Maker. These tags are printed from plants found in my garden, such as acacia, native mint bush (the smell when printing is amazing), maple leaves, chrysanthemum, hebe, banksia, and some tree that I don’t know the name of

13.01.2022 Our first newsletter went out to our lovely subscribers this morning. Join our mailing list via our website to read about the goings-on here at Print/Maker...

12.01.2022 The subtle beauty of embossing. Each design is shown here, including the new stitch design (top right), which I ran through the press on the weekend. #handmade

12.01.2022 Tools down for another year... The last print session for 2020 involved printing up a few more little tags that will be ready in the new year. A few experiments with different natives that I’ve sourced during my drive to and from the studio. One thing I was excited to discover was how well grass seed heads print. Their wispy tips sprinkled with a little ink look divine . And they’re everywhere! Guess what I’ll be doing on my break

12.01.2022 This little linocut is getting a bit of a re-work today in the studio. All going well it will make a bright and cheery print and will feature on some gift tags. Well...that’s the plan

09.01.2022 Graphic design and printmaking collide... A simple and elegant identity for two artists whose work is detail-driven.

07.01.2022 A slight departure from the usual, this one is carved by a machine based on my drawings... ‘Journeys of the eucalyptus long horned borer beetle II’, laser cut on 600gsm paper. Looks particularly lovely hanging as is or in front of a window revealing light through each incision.

04.01.2022 So nice to be positioned along Kelly’s Lane which connects through to Kelly Street. Kelly Street is named after adventurer, seaman and whaler, James Kelly. Kelly circumnavigated our island state in 1816. Kelly’s Steps, which you can see in the background, leads you onto the Salamanca esplanade one side and the other up to Battery Point, walking past what were once Georgian workers’ cottages.

03.01.2022 Topping up stocks of embossed cards. These ones stemmed from drawings of real and imagined flowers, seeds and pods, which have then been carved into lino.

02.01.2022 Entering the realm of textiles... Hand printed linen cushions are now in the studio and soon to be online. #handprintedtextiles #madeintasmania #handmade
