21.01.2022 Printing Tip #7 Booklet Printing Booklet printing is an option present in many print drivers and is a variation on the ‘multiple pages per sheet’ option (see tip #1). The difference is that rather than placing page 2 next to page 1 the pages are laid out such that when the document is folded in half the pages run consecutively through the resulting booklet. The booklet will end up with a multiple of 4 pages, with blank pages at the end if your document does not contain a ...multiple of 4 pages. Some print drivers even have a ‘booklet setup wizard’ to help you in selecting the required settings. If your printer does not have a specialised finishing module to fold and staple the booklet for you, you may find it impractical to use the booklet option for larger documents as they would need to be folded and stapled by hand and you would need a stapler capable of reaching the fold of the booklet. However, if you are using a printer that is managed under contract (see tip #2) it is often cheaper to print a 4 page colour document as a booklet on A3 paper than as 4 pages double sided on A4 paper and stapled together. 08.01.2022 Printing Tip #8 - Page Scaling Sometimes we find that documents are created at a different page size to the size that we want to print it. Some applications such as Adobe Acrobat and some print drivers provide a scale to fit option that allows you to select the required paper size and force the document to print at that size. In other cases the required scaling must be manually entered. When reducing the size of a document; 1. To go down 1 A size paper scale (A3 to A4, A4... to A5) use 71%, 2. To go down 2 sizes (A3 to A5) use 50%. 3. When increasing by a single paper size (A4 to A3) select a scale of 141% 4. to increase by 2 sizes (A5 to A3) is 200%. See more

04.01.2022 Printing Tip #6 Poster Printing Poster Printing is an option available in the in the print dialogue box of programs such as Microsoft Publisher and Adobe Acrobat as well as in many print driver properties panels. It allows for documents to be printed larger than the maximum paper size capability of the printer by breaking it into panels that can be reassembled after printing. As printers cannot print to the very edge of the page, a blank edge would need to be trimmed off ...or there will be gaps in the image where the pages join. As such it is not a viable method of producing high quality posters however it can be very useful in creating mock-ups before sending your file out for production or for applications where such quality is not an issue. It can also be useful in urgent situations when you don’t have time to send a file out for production. See more
