25.01.2022 Our amazing team member Amber Smyth was recently admitted to practice congratulations Amber! Read on to learn a bit more about Amber’s journey As well as managing to power through her Law degree and post-graduate training, Amber has brought an amazing attitude and dedication to her work as a paralegal with PBL. We’re sure that she’ll continue that passion while she finds her stride as a lawyer.... We tried to get Amber to tell us her favourite area of law, but it sounds like she just loves it all at the moment. From her time in Jakarta working at Indonesia Corruption Watch, to her Public International Law mooting experience and her new-found love for Strata Law and Litigation, it looks like Amber is keen to grow her expertise in many directions. We think she’ll end up in our litigation department. When she’s not on the tools, Amber’s passion for cooking and good health give her plenty to be getting on with. Apparently she also finds listening to Pitbull therapeutic, although we’re not sure we understand that one We look forward to everything Amber will bring to the legal profession as she starts this new leg of her career. Congratulations Amber from all of us at PBL!

25.01.2022 The Residential Apartment Buildings (Compliance and Enforcement Powers) Act 2020 provides several powerful tools to help apartment owners and bodies corporate with both investigating defects and enforcing rectification. In this article, we’ll take a look at how the new Act works and the circumstances in which it might apply to you. https://www.pbl.legal/residential-apartment-developers-lia/

25.01.2022 Traditionally, many building and #construction #disputes involve each party claiming that the other party is responsible for any #defects that might have occurred. These rights and obligations kicked in on 11 June 2020, so read on to understand how this could affect you as a builder o...r owners corporation. https://www.pbl.legal/building-defects-responsibility/

21.01.2022 Nathan Nevell is one of PBL #Law Group’s highly valued #solicitors. After years in teaching, Nathan moved into law and now focuses on dispute resolution and litigation, family law, employment and estates. If you ask Nathan about his non- #lawyerlife, there’s a good chance the answer’s going to involve a bit of sport. From dirt bikes to surfing, golf, tennis or squash Nathan certainly doesn’t lounge around.... In the office, he’s most satisfied when he’s helping find a just outcome in a difficult matter. He has a keen sense of right and wrong and brings a lot of energy to helping those who need it most. We tried to get him to share a secret or two about himself, but his lips were sealed you’ll have to ask him yourself when you next speak with him Nathan you’re a quality guy and we love having you as part of the team. Thanks for your hard work!

19.01.2022 Today’s our chance to get behind the scenes with Raea Khan, principal of PBL Law Group. Most kids dream of futures as movie stars, famous gamers or police officers. With his dad as a lawyer though, it didn’t take Raea long to figure out that he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps. A legal career was in his sights from a young age. He quickly realised that being a lawyer wasn’t just about research and legislation. In fact Raea found that he had just as much (possibly mo...re?) fondness for the business of law as he did actually being a lawyer. Exploring ways to establish, build and refine a business always gave him a buzz, and he’s brought that energy to PBL from day 1. Most satisfied when he’s finding novel solutions to interesting problems (be they legal or business), Raea has occasionally reflected on the fact that what lawyers regularly bring to the table is common sense advice that offers meaningful solutions. Because of this he gets frustrated when lawyers get tangled in unnecessary debates and arguments on things that don’t move matters towards a resolution. Running a law firm certainly has its ups and downs. Being a fundamentally optimistic guy, Raea believes that the lessons he’s learned while running PBL have put him and his team in a great position for the next 5 years. With a new member of his family arriving soon, he’ll also be putting those lessons to good use as he adapts to a different type of work flow one that is efficient, productive and balanced. He’s keen for the challenge. We asked Raea what he’d do if he had to start over, and his answers gives us some insight into his mindset: I’d attach myself to a specialist high profile lawyer and work for free until I’ve proven myself to them. From there he’s confident that he’d win their trust through his hard work and dedication, and ultimately arrive at an arrangement that benefited everyone. Raea strives to provide a rewarding and positive working environment for the PBL team. He’s positive and enthusiastic for the future, and we can’t wait to see where his vision takes PBL going forward.

17.01.2022 As a lad, growing up in the country NSW Iain enjoyed playing all sorts of sport including Cricket, Soccer, Squash, Tennis, Table Tennis, Rowing and Athletics to name a few. When not on a sporting field he would also explore the great outdoors with his mates and fossick for rocks and the elusive gold nugget. From there, it’s only natural that he took his love of the great outdoors and rocks and intertwined it with the periodic table as he learned more about the natural enviro...nment before studying Law and Environmental Science at University where he majored in Geology. To him, the mingling of chemistry into his geology was completely understandable because, after all, who doesn’t like breathing helium and playing with bunsen burners. After finishing University and graduating as a Lawyer, Iain put his combined degree to good use and has acted for numerous larger clients including blue chip mining companies, power stations, local councils and developers in the fields of property law, mining law, commercial law and planning law. Over the years Iain has further diversified his legal skill set to assist clients and has a keen interest in commercial and retail leasing, the sale and purchase of businesses, subdivisions, strata law, easements, acquiring and disposing both residential and commercial property, commercial and property litigation, and local government/planning law including land and environment court appeals (quite a list!). Now he’s still a cricket tragic, follows the Manly Sea-Eagles in the NRL and enjoys running in charity events such as the Bay to Bay Fun Run and City 2 Surf. Even if most of us don’t know our lanthanides from our actinides, Iain is an outstanding human being and it’s a privilege to be working with him.

11.01.2022 Recently our Sharon Banning and Amber Smyth had the great pleasure of spending a bit of time at Kings Cross Distillery. It was wonderful to see our amazing client's hard work pay off with a fantastic new fitout and a sumptuous menu. Sharon and Amber were greeted by a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere with a rustic vibe. It is clear the owners have captured the rich history of the premises. Delicious food followed, which Sharon describes as a "magical garden on a plate". The local...ly produced food and gin didn't fail to disappoint. Between the food, drink, ambience and amazing service we're told that even after 3 and a half hours, they didn't really want to leave. A memorable experience, and one we hope to repeat in the near future.
