17.01.2022 Franking Credits. Much is being said in the current election campaign by the Labor Party about changing the tax system and not refunding franking credits in cash to investors who have no other taxable income. I would like to make a bit of sense on what this means. So there are 2 investors who have both invested money in one of the big banks in Australia and for that investment they in turn receive each year a dividend for the money invested. So assuming the dividend or return... on the investment has had tax paid by the bank of 30% this return on investment to the investor comes with a 'franking credit' or another way of saying this is that the bank made say $1000 profit, paid tax of $300 (company tax rate) and returns to the investor $700 - a franked dividend. So what happens now is the first investor who has other income and pays tax at the top rate of 47%, declares on his tax return he has received this return on his investment with tax already paid at 30% and the ATO then further tax him at another 17%. The second investor who has no other income declares to the ATO his return on his investment with tax paid and then receives the tax back of $300 because he shouldn't pay tax on an investment due to his low income. Under the ALP proposal of no cash back for franked dividends the first investor STILL pays a top up tax of 17% because his investment has not paid enough tax due to the investors tax rate but investor 2, despite not having any other taxable income, still has to pay 30% tax and no refund of over paid tax. This proposed change does not just effect the top end of town as suggested but many other people who have these investments. See more

13.01.2022 With more and more Pensioners receiving an inheritance in older ages it is important that they receive good Financial Advice concerning the use of these funds. The attached article is a good example of how a person has been detrimentally but correctly treated by Centrelink because she chose to be generous and gift away the majority of an inheritance.

06.01.2022 Important Information. There are some members of Superannuation funds - and you may well be one on these people, who have Insurance attached to a Superannuation account and that account is regarded under law to be inactive. This simply means for one reason or another a contribution or rollover has not been made to the account for 16 months or more. As from 1st July this year the Super fund is required by law to CANCEL this insurance unless the member has requested in writing ...for this insurance to continue or makes a contribution. There are many people who are unaware of this development and must make an election to have the cover continue. Some people will lose cover and not be able to apply for cover again due to various reasons including a change in health conditions. If you would like help or more information about this please call this office or send a message. It must not be ignored or could prove costly. See more

03.01.2022 On 9th September 2019, Priority Financial Advice merged with Tribel Advisory Pty Ltd a national boutique financial services organization with very similar values, capabilities and ‘client first’ ethos to Priority Financial Advice. With legislation, technology, compliance, products and services and investment markets always on the move, it requires more and more resources to stay up to date. There are definite advantages to merging with another practice that gives our client...s access to a greater scale, more staff and specialized back-office administration and services. Both Ian and Rachael are moving across to Tribel Advisory and will continue to support you in achieving your financial goals well into the future! Please don’t hesitate to contact us on the same number 08 93828201 and at the same address in Subiaco, if you have any questions at all about the changes.
