11.01.2022 A highlight of my career as a Celebrant was marrying my little brother to the beautiful Kaz last year. The bridal party was made up of my niece and nephew, plus my two step-nephews along with their partners. I couldn’t help but burst with pride. The ceremony was held at the Wedding Shed, Orrvale. A lovely rustic setting in a former fruit packing shed. A hand-fasting ceremony was included with the mother’s of both bride and groom involved in placing the cords. A ritual I will write about and explain in my next post.

05.01.2022 A handfasting ceremony has been used for centuries in certain countries and has a couple of different meanings. In Scotland, for example, it was used for a betrothed couple to promise to live together for a year and if they were still in love after that time then they would marry. This did cause a bit of conflict between clans if the man sent the woman back to her clan after the 12 months In England, Handfasting was a formal marriage up until the 17th century, then couples were made to marry in a church. The ceremony can be performed with ribbons, cords or rope and as many as you wish to have. It is a great way to involve other family members in your ceremony or you can just have your Celebrant perform the tying for you.

04.01.2022 These look great.
