25.01.2022 Bringing my joy of crafting art portraiture together with this (pre) wedding shoot brought so many beautiful moments. And with hand printing to bring a sense of the ideas in mind when shooting (not always what the camera "sees") there can be multiple ideas before settling on favourites. The grandeur of clean black and white, or the softer warm tones? Which do you prefer? I think now I love the warmer smooth tones in the dress.... Originally it was the BW. Maybe it depends on your mood when viewing them :)

From a lovely collection of too many to choose I took this one apart and, by hand with pen and tablet, brought out a little at a time until the final artwork was ready to be finished off - printed on a soft art rag paper, then matted and mounted for the wall. One of a number of prints in my archives from l-o-n-g ago As I’ve created work for 3 generations of some families, this little girl is possibly a mum herself by now, taken on location in Mitcham at a time photographers mostly shot in studios. I’d love to find this family and meet again all these years later. If known please let us know - delighted to pass this print on as a gift. 11.01.2022 Realised a corner in the gallery today shows off culmination’s of so many years continuous learning and practice. Thought I’d share... Portfolio matted prints - I’ve learnt there’s no substitute to quality workmanship and attention to detail. The fully art worked images are individually enhanced to match the artist paper surface that best match each portrait set, bringing a presence about them when standing on the sideboard or brought out of their gift box. LightSketch art...ist rendered bespoke display pieces, to have unique pieces of art to hang. In the darkroom days I learnt to make my own photographic papers, hand coating emulsion on art papers and developing in trays of chemicals. Those days of tinkering transferred to the digital arena when it became available (way before the age of apps) to lead me to invent ways to shoot & transform our portraits into works emulating sketches, paintings and etchings. Still crafted by hand with pen & tablet these have been a truly bespoke offering I still enjoy spending the extra time to create for artwork in family homes. Master print & canvas portraits. (By customers suggestions now named masterpiece collection). Finding the right light to shoot in, direction of people to bring out those natural expressions and personal moments, enhancing special moments with custom printing, textures, layers, tones to visualise more than the camera can capture, then printing with pigments onto French cotton canvas or fine art papers for delicate textures and finish... all that can be learnt over a few decades rolled into one. Creating professional portraiture is a little like being a film director, photographer, lighting expert, master printer and artist all in one. Love every second of it, but better than all of the craft is seeing a smile of warmth every time we hang work in someone’s home. Thanks to all our families for allowing this love of creating to be realised. - David.
