20.01.2022 Over the years, there have been different rules in the Act about who owns copyright. Nowadays, for commercial work, it’s the photographer who owns copyright not the person or people in a shot, nor the owner of the building where it was taken, nor the stylist, nor the person who commissioned the photo. 14.01.2022 Cameras are getting smarter, but cameras don’t take pictures. People do. In photography as in any other field, professionals do it better.

14.01.2022 I had to do something different to survive, says Lisa. I was depressed. I was grieving. I hadn’t coped properly with everything that happened. I wasn’t sure... what to do next, but I knew I couldn’t do the same thing anymore. The only way to move forward was to move away from what I’d done in the past. Saad called her clients and told them she was making a change. In the process, she let go of about 90 percent of her market base, including some people she’d worked with for many years. It was a bold move, but it allowed her some peace to consider her next steps. I think you have to stop the noise, stop everything, for the next inspiration to come, says Lisa. Otherwise you won’t hear it.
13.01.2022 Most working days on assignment for Gavin Jowitt, a leading Sydney-based commercial photographer, begin early. When he’s working on location, quite often he’s out on the road by 4.30am, preferring to be on site before sunrise. If the work is further afield, way out west in NSW or interstate, he will travel the day before. Jowitt quips that he could take it easy and laze about in the mornings, but that would not put food on the family table. #procommercial
12.01.2022 "For my first commission photographing the Myer Christmas windows in 2001, sets were built in the Stage ONE warehouse two weeks prior to installation in Bourke Street. We used a 5x4 camera, shooting 6cm x12cm roll film colour transparency film. The film was scanned and retouched, delivering high-resolution files for print. When digital cameras started to deliver higher megapixel files, we switched to photographing the windows in situ in Bourke Street. The client loved chang...e - it eliminated the labour building the sets in the warehouse and reinstalling them two weeks later in Bourke Street, and the client now had an additional two weeks lead time." - Rob Anderson procommercialphotography.aipp.com.au/case-st/myer-christmas
09.01.2022 Contrary to popular belief, Photoshop cannot fix everything. In actual fact, Photoshop can fix very little. A final ‘Photoshopped’ image from a poor capture will still be inferior to that of an image that has been correctly captured. But capturing the images, or taking the photographs, is only the beginning.

08.01.2022 "Most days, my life revolves around photography in some shape or form. I have a love of food that comes a close second to that of taking pictures. I cook as I s...hoot, a marriage of heart and intuition. When I’m working in the studio, I just know when I’ve got the capture. The same goes for when I’m in the kitchen, I just know when the flavours are right. When I’m not reading photography books or briefs, I’m reading cookbooks. Understandably then, some sixteen years ago I bought those two loves together and started shooting food. Today, my work is in Sydney where I have lived since 2000, shooting food, people and product photography for advertising and publishing clients."
