18.01.2022 The lower back is also known as the lumbar spine that is situated between the upper back (thoracic spine) and the sacrum (tail bon...e). Lower back pain can be brought on acutely with a sudden movement but more often pain in the lower back is brought on gradually. Common contributing factors: Prolonged poor postures. Poor mobility of the spine and/or hips. Poor sleep quality and/ or duration and/or position. Core and pelvic strength and stability Poor office set up at home now compared to previous office set up. Lack of exercise. Stress and/or anxiety. Previous lower back pain Cold weather Lower back pain is multi-factorial so don’t search for one cause! 04.01.2022 MOBILITY before Stability Here are 2 great exercises to help get the lower back moving. These work best in the morning to he...lp get the joints moving, oiled and the muscles warm ready to take on the day. Just like starting a car for the first time in a cold morning, sometimes we need to warm the lower back up before we take off! These exercises should not cause any pain! If there is any pain, stop and seek your medical practitioner. . Position: lying on back, knees together and bent so that feet are flat on the floor, hands by your side. Movement: gentle side to side rocks, keeping your feet and knees together. Progress: increase the size of the movement by getting your knees closer to the floor on each side. 15 reps right and left. . Position: lying on your front with your hands at in line with your forehead. Movement: press through your hands to straighten your elbows and arch your back backwards, keeping your pelvis in contact with the floor.
