25.01.2022 Single touch payroll is coming for all employers. Now is the time to start thinking about your current payroll system and what you need to do to comply.

22.01.2022 Happy 2019! Over the break I had a couple of trips away, one in NSW and one in Victoria. Both were to popular holiday seaside towns. What fascinated me was the number of shops, cafes and restuarants that were closed or closed early! The tourist season is a time to cash in so if your business relies on tourists, be open for them to spend their $!

19.01.2022 These days scammers are using various methods to try to get money out of you or to obtain your personal information. We have had cases in the past where clients have been contacted from someone suposedly from the ATO. If you get one of these calls and the caller threatens you with arrest, demands immediate payment of a debt, or asks for payment by Bitcoin or iTunes vouchers it is a scam. Also watch out for scammers using text messages or emails. If you doubt a caller is from the ATO you should get their name and phone number. You can then call the ATO on 1800 008 540 to check if in fact they were from the ATO. If you receive a suspicious email do not click on any links or open attachments. Do not respond to the email but forward it to [email protected] and delete the email.

16.01.2022 The ATO also uses its small business benchmarks to identify taxpayers who may not be declaring all of their income. This is particulary the case if you operate a cash business. To see if you are at risk of an audit you should check your numbers with the ATO benchmarks.

14.01.2022 Important ATO lodgment and payment dates this month are: 21 Feb - January 2019 monthly BAS and IAS 28 Feb - December 2018 quarterly BAS 28 Feb - December 2018 quarterly PAYG instalments (lodgment only required if varying the ATO instalment amount)
