20.01.2022 Patients often come to us with severe pain from a previously filled tooth which has a large Amalgam filling. Often, the cause of pain is not clearly known. The are usually very sensitive to cold things and chewing hard things can be very sore. These teeth often have cracks which sometimes can be diagnosed from symptoms alone. Treatment can involve just a filling, root canal or sometimes, extraction of the tooth. ... The worse the crack is, the higher the chance of extraction being required. In the series of photos below: 1) you can see the large amalgam filling in a lower molar. 2) you can see the filling removed by our dentists and the large crack visible (blue arrows) 3) you can see the tooth restored with a tooth coloured filling material back to its natural appearance. The diagnosis of a crack and conservative treatment to avoid a root canal or extraction can often be complex. But our dentists are trained in management of these teeth. 19.01.2022 Some more amazing work by Dr Sahil Soni. This patient came in for a normal checkup and his tooth showed signs of cracking. (See first picture). A full porcelain crown was recommended to prevent fracture of the tooth but the patient did not go ahead with treatment.... Soon after the patient returned with a broken cusp where half their tooth had broken off. (See second picture). Dr Soni removed the old amalgam filling and prepared the tooth with a high degree of skill. Note the smoothness of the preparation. Our Cerec technology was then used to take a scan of the prepared tooth and a single visit crown was constructed for the patient. (See third picture) We have invested over $200,000 in this technology to offer same day treatment for porcelain crowns. No more gooey mouthfuls of impression materials or ill fitting and annoying temporaries. No more taking time off work to come back for a second visit. 15.01.2022 There are many patients presenting to us with broken teeth and emergencies in recent weeks. Here is a patient seen by Dr Sahil Soni who had a severely broken down lower molar. You can see the initial presentation and then the completed restoration. This was at a low cost to the patient but is an interim solution while we assess how the tooth responds to the treatment.
