24.01.2022 Getting back into my Active Ageing sessions at last - the first one since Covid-19 restrictions is for PopUp Health next Wednesday. They asked me to do a 5min warm-up video which they can get the groups to do every week prior to their weekly workshop for the next 12 weeks, so heres a little double-speed bit of it.
24.01.2022 Congratulations to Brenton Williams for organising another amazing fundraiser: Red Faces 2020 - raising $30,000.00 through this event! He is a Nurse working at the Royal Adelaide Hospital Acute Admission Psychiatric Ward, who supports education and awareness-raising around mental health issues in South Australia. In his words "The funds go directly to a program for youth 12-18 year old in schools who come from Dysfunctional families with either Mental Health issues, drugs o...r alcohol issues and help these youth find distractions and a plan so they dont end up with mental health issues themselves." http://www.redfacesvarietyshow.com.au/

19.01.2022 Thanks Michelle for sharing this article Relating this article to my studio, currently 6 of my clients are over 60, and I also have my weekly Active Ageing Sessions (starting up again next month, ages range from 60-95) which up until COVID-19 restrictions had on average 40-50 regulars in each session. I know that each one of them LOVE moving, feeling stronger, improving mobility, and contributing consciously and proactively towards positive progress. They have shown that... getting old is so much a state of mind. I love working with people of any age - as long as they have a spark inside themselves to feel better. For all my clients in the studio we do minimal cardio and focus on strength (unless cardio fitness is their focus); the last thing we need is to ramp up our already overrun stress flight-or-flight state (which breaks down muscle, and perpetuates the stress state). By building muscle (density and strength, not necessarily size) we are supporting our bones better (think osteoporosis) and improving posture AND getting the release of our feel-good hormones. Strength exercise also helps increase your metabolic function - your metabolism; and has a positive effect on gut health vs high cardio which is more likely to have detrimental effects of gut health. Strength exercises also place less stress on your joints, with less repetitive movements than cardio and less impact. Yes you need load bearing exercises but it definitely doesnt have to be high-impact. You dont have to feel buggered to get stronger or fitter https://mobile.abc.net.au//2020-/ladies-who-pump/12565974
17.01.2022 A sneak peek of Martha’s chin-ups using her new chin-up bar... via Zoom (she’s in Melbourne, I’m in Adelaide). We’ve been doing Zoom sessions for about 18 months, which has certainly been at least one constant through the last 9 months of Covid-crazy. What’s great about Zoom sessions?... At home Associate healthy habits with your home No disruption when restrictions/lockdown imposed Session plan designed for you Accountability Progression Coaching and support Adaptability - if you’re tired, sore, injured, unmotivated ...just to name a few. Once a week, a month or a season....a change of circumstance or location; there’s always a way to keep connected, focused and motivated.
