22.01.2022 We at The GP Support line want to wish you all a Happy Holidays! Our Psychiatrists have had an amazing year working with and offering advice to General Practitioners around NSW. Here’s what some of you GPs have had to say: It benefits me & my patients in that it gives me the confidence to continue care & make medications changes at a time when the patients need it rather than having a lengthy wait for a psychiatrist. - Dr B.G. ... TMS uses non-invasive magnetic pulses to stimulate the prefrontal cortex of the brain to activate positive mood pathways: ... When an electrical current passes through a TMS coil, it generates a magnetic field that passes into the brain without resistance. This magnetic field acts via induction to produce electrical activity in the underlying cortical neurons. If the stimulation is provided above a certain threshold, these neurons will depolarise. The repeated firing of local cortical neurons induces an effect similar to long-term potentiation.
