13.01.2022 Thank you Gay for taking the time to write such a wonderful email. I just wanted to pass on my sincere thanks to LDC and especially Amanda Tocci/Hicks for her insightful seminar last Tuesday. As a parent I was able to walk away and understand my childrens issues, especially one of them, more clearly. I was able to set my expectations of what I could do to help and also to talk to his teacher and the Learning Support Teacher at the school. I was also able to use the knowle...dge immediately, not only on my kids, but also the 4 boys I tutor in the reading recovery program at the school. Instead of the typical look-cover-write, I knew to ask them to read the word, write it and say the word 4 times within 18 seconds. Its truly remarkable what my children and I have managed to do armed with this information in just a week, in terms of my children remembering spelling for the sight word Friday test, my phone number (for their safety), and the rhyme about how many days in each month of the year. I hope you have Amanda back at some stage. I will be sitting in the front row again! Please pass on my thanks to her. So many people (clinicians and teachers) look at me with a blank face when I mention Working Memory. Its hard to get strategies in place when those in highly qualified roles caring for our children, seem oblivious to the issue. Im thankful I knew about it from a Paediatrician. I so glad I could make it last Tuesday. I will be following Amandas work. See more
