25.01.2022 The South Australian Government is funding the $3.73 million Birkenhead Bridge Upgrade Project, to ensure the State Heritage bridges long term structural integ...rity and safety for all users. DPTI will be completing the work, which includes replacing the timber roadway deck with a Fibre Reinforced Polymer deck, and the eastern timber footpath with an aluminium footpath. Works will also include associated steel protection works, bitumen surfacing and line marking. To complete these works safely and efficiently, there will be access restrictions under and across the Birkenhead Bridge for road and marine traffic. Environmental controls will be implemented to ensure there is no impact to the Port River. The bridge will be closed to road traffic for approximately 8 weeks commencing Monday, 17 August. Road traffic detours will be in place, and pedestrian access will be managed throughout construction. Marine traffic restrictions will be in place for approximately 10 weeks commencing from Monday, 3 August. The extended marine closure will enable the project team to establish a working platform and all environmental controls ahead of works on the bridge deck. The majority of works are planned to take place between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday and Saturday, between 7am and 3pm. Should night works be required, adjacent residents and businesses will be provided with advance notice. Every effort will be made to minimise impacts to the community, and access to businesses and properties will be maintained at all times. This is following our in-depth study last year to understand how pedestrians move around the area and how often and where people cross Semaphore road. We found two main locations, where hundreds of people are crossing between moving vehicles every hour. We are seeking your feedback on the proposal to install the new zebra crossings and the associated loss of six parking spaces. While parking can be an issue on busy days, we want to make the street more walkable, accessible and safer for everybody. The crossings will make it easier for people to visit businesses on both sides of the road, encouraging them to stay longer in the area, and making Semaphore Road a better, more lively and safer place for not only local residents but everybody who visits. We are meeting with local traders along Semaphore Road over the next couple of weeks and we want you to have your say as well. 02.01.2022 The future submarine and continuous shipbuilding programs are establishing themselves for the long term on the Lefevre Peninsula north of Adelaide, with the Cit...y of PAE at the heart of shipbuilding and Defence in Australia. Naval Group Australia is at the centre of the $90 billion Future Submarine Program, and they are putting the finishing touches to a new $25 million HQ near Harts Mill in the old TAFE SA campus. Last week they welcomed Andra Easton as their 250th employees in Australia, with the total workforce expected to top 1,700 by 2028. City of PAE Mayor Claire Boan said Naval basing its HQ at the Port is fantastic for not only the local region but the state as a whole. Its one of those spaces thats just been waiting to be reawakened, and we see this as a really great opportunity, she said. There are also new hotels which will be finished in the next couple of years. Add to that the new housing developments around the waterfront, Council placemaking projects to bring the area to life, and a newly refurbished McLaren Parade which we will be constructing soon, and the Port really is coming alive. Coupled with the newly expanded Osborne Naval Shipyard, the City of PAE is working closely with different levels of government right through to local businesses both here and in France, to ensure that our local economy makes the most of the incredible opportunities for business, education, employment and infrastructure.
