17.02.2022 Phillip Liang: Rank 1 in NSW Mathematics Extension 2 (100% in both Extension 1 and Extension 2) State Rank in Physics and Chemistry ATAR 99.95 .... Meet Phillip Liang, the 2018 James Ruse Agricultural High School alumnus who came First in NSW in Extension Two Mathematics. Phillip achieved HSC scores of 100 in both Extension One and Extension Two Mathematics, and a perfect ATAR of 99.95. Phillip attended Proficiency for one-to-one mathematics tutoring from Year 9 to Year 12 HSC. . Having consistently ranked first in mathematics up to that point in James Ruse from Years 7-9, Phillip sought the help of Proficiency to challenge and extend his abilities whilst maintaining the best rank at school through to the completion of his HSC. Thanks to Proficiency, I maintained my first ranking in James Ruse during Years 11 and 12 despite the competition growing fiercer every year. Proficiency’s one-to-one tutoring was perfect for me I was always learning new things and pushing myself to the limits of my abilities, whereas I become bored in a large classroom environment because the work did not extend me enough. My tutor, David, constantly challenged me with more difficult questions I had never encountered, sourcing them from an endless well of resources. I remember encountering a very interesting complex polynomials question which I’d never seen before and had no idea how to solve, but David walked me through the solution. We practiced so many questions that I became extremely efficient I would always have a lot of time leftover in exams to check my answers. I became confident enough to walk into any exam knowing that I would either recognise the type of question and be able to solve it, or use my ample checking time to solve any novel question. . David marked any practice papers I had completed, and he spent a lot of time and effort sourcing the most challenging questions for me to do. I could not have asked for a more dedicated tutor. .
