13.01.2022 Documenting your sales process - boring, but so rewarding! Yes, this means listing each step you take, from first contact with a prospect, until you close the sale and they become a customer. After the sale you will need other processes and sales skills to market to them and retain them (another post there!). The beauty of having your sales process documented is that now you can test the results that come from making changes to it. All processes have outputs or results, good... or bad. Your current sales process, whether it's documented or not, produces results for you. The only way to improve something is to be able to measure it from a baseline. Segmenting the process into smaller stages (Attention, Engagement, Followup Sequence, Proposal, Close) allows you to pinpoint small step tweaks. Based on feedback from your sales calls you may improve your scripts, introduce a follow-up system or use a tool such as a CRM platform. At first you may want to just draft your sales process out on a whiteboard or sheet of paper. After a few iterations you can begin to measure, say, your conversion rate. Increasing this by 10% can have a dramatic effect on your results! What part of your sales process have you tuned up recently?

11.01.2022 Alright I admit it. I am a card carrying introvert! Just how do you promote yourself and your business when the very thought of having the spotlight on you terrifies you? When I first went into business I attended networking events. You could spot me easily. I was the one clutching a drink and hovering on the fringes of the crowd building up the courage to make conversation. ... I learned a few strategies that worked such as turning up very early and introducing myself to the first few people who came in so could then form a little group and feel more comfortable. I would then ask one of them to introduce me to others in the crowd... Promoting yourself online seems a lot easier as you can project yourself from the comfort of your computer or mobile phone. But when it comes down to doing business (making sales) it's person-to-person relationships that are required. What I found helped me immensely was a mentor who reminded me of how much my skills and expertise could help other people. Helping others be successful became my mission and (besides being incredibly fulfilling) has drawn me out of myself. I found the courage to push through my introversion because my "why" was a powerful driver. How do you promote yourself as an introvert?

04.01.2022 The high cost of saving money. When I first started out in business i knew i had to keep my overheads to a minimum. So, being involved in a technical field for many years I decided to save money by creating my own website , graphics and SEO approach. This decision cost me dearly in time, money and business. I invested many thousands of dollars on education, courses and software. ... Then there was the countless hours painstakingly building, tweaking and being distracted by the overwhelming information available. None of these things brought in any revenue... I found myself prioritising loading new images to my website or learning the latest SEO techniques over marketing my business and bringing in revenue. My lesson? Bringing in business and cash allows you to pay for experts to do the technical work (so much faster and better than I could). So how have you "saved money" when you started out?
