25.01.2022 Upcoming exhibition // Two Trees Talking. Two Trees Talking is a unique community art exhibition raising awareness around mental health and well-being. It is a professionally-curated, contemporary art show telling the stories of more than 30 local artists. The exhibition is the brainchild of Terry Cooper, an artist with 5 decades experience in making art.... A professional surfboard maker, Terry stopped creating art during a decade of debilitating pain and depression. He returned to art as his weapon of choice against the destructive thoughts brought about by physical and emotional pain, and slowly battled his way back to himself, his family and the world Terry thought that if art could have such a profoundly positive effect on his mental health and his ability to function in the world, there surely must be others with a similar experience. And so the Two Trees Talking art exhibition was born Terry’s vision is to create a platform for artistic expression of pain, provide a safe experience of healing and growth for all who exhibit, and start a broader conversation about how art can be used as a weapon against mental distress and illness, and a medicine to keep people healthy. We are proud to feature a diverse range of emerging and established local artists, many of whom are exhibiting for the first time. All art is for sale. Please join us for the Opening Night celebrations on Friday 2 October and come support our artists as they speak about their work on Saturday 3rd October. Details are as follows: Opening Night: Friday 2 October, 6pm - late Come and help us celebrate the brave and brazen artists who have poured their hearts into this exhibition. A COVID safe event. BYO nibblies and drinks. Artists' Presentations: Saturday 3 October, 1pm - 4pm A powerful afternoon of talking, listening. and connecting. Come hear the artists speak about their work - their process, their inspiration, the impact art has on their lives. A COVID safe event. BYO nibblies and drinks. NB. We are holding workshops and a special event for World Mental Health Day on 10th October.

21.01.2022 Did someone say cheese? When local artists Virginia Settre and Andy Ophee decided to go ahead and show their work as planned pre COVID-19, they worked towards ...providing a safe environment as best they could. With a maximum of fifty people at any one time, this meant implementing a plan involving RSVP's, special food prep and sanitising everything and everyone! Sarah Moss kevin White

01.01.2022 Have you experienced mental health struggles and used art as therapy? Ever thought about showing your work in an exhibition? We want to hear from you. Expressi...ons of interest are now open for the second Two Trees Talking art exhibition, held in Wollongong 30 Sep - 18 Oct, to raise awareness around mental health and well-being. It coincides with NSW Mental Health Month, World Mental Health Week and World Mental Health Day on 10 October. You have until June 30th to submit a short bio and samples of work. You can exhibit under a different name if this feels safer for you. All types of contemporary visual art works are welcome from individuals who use art as therapy to deal with trauma and mental health issues, or who turn to art to maintain mental and emotional well being. We're not looking for perfection; we want to see emotion and meaning and courage. It's completely free to exhibit, and all art can be sold. We will assist you with pricing. Videos are of Terry Cooper, brainchild of this exhibition. One of the original surfboard makers for legendary local surf company, Byrne Surfboards (he's been there 43 years and more than likely worked on your board), Terry went through some crappy times during a decade of debilitating pain and depression. Two Trees Talking is the result of Terry's mental health struggles and how he used art as a weapon to fight back. Please like our Facebook page to keep up with exhibition info. Email your expressions of interest to Terry at [email protected]. Please message Dee Milenkovic with any media and sponsorship enquiries, and I'll send you an info pack with all the details. Like and share. Let's get the word out!
