25.01.2022 This is why our Wells Appeal is so important. This is our Malawi communitys current water source. Can you even imagine walking 30 minutes to carry home water of this quality? The coronavirus continues to spread in Malawi as does the health, economic and educational crises that it creates. The government has increased restrictions as the number of cases rise. The need for our village communities to access local, clean water intensifies each day. ...If you would like to help us raise funds for the remaining 3 wells, please DONATE HERE www.projectkindy.com/donate Gifts are now tax deductible! This meth...od creates a stunning fabric that is soft, chemical-free and incredibly durable. Sinerji was built on Fair Trade partnerships, meaning that every aspect of our production line considers our impact on the communities involved. In most western countries, we have laws to ensure that workers are fairly treated and are protected from injury, harm and exploitation. Sadly, in many countries where the bulk of the worlds clothes are made, these laws are non-existent. Thats why its crucial to support Fair Trade businesses whenever you can! 08.01.2022 I cried (embarrassingly) on the phone to the DFAT lady. It was our fourth phone call. The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade had signed off on Project Kind...y as a worthy candidate for DGR status and that we were now handed over to the ATO and Treasury to set up an Overseas Aid Public Fund. This means that we were one significant step closer to our donations being tax-deductible (DGR means Deductible Gift Recipient). Although this wasn't the end of the race, the feeling of relief and hope overwhelmed me and all of a sudden I had visions of many solid classrooms with storerooms for resources for happy teachers, flowing wells with smiling mums and plenty of food for content kids. It has been 3 years of headaches and hope. 3 years of figuring out how to build a paperwork bridge to enable the Canossian Sisters and local volunteers living and operating within realities and culture of rural Malawi to meet the expectations of the process, policy, spreadsheet-hungry Aussie government. Just when the seemingly never-ending obstacles of Australian government criteria seemed insurmountable, an unexpected advocate took on our plight at DFAT (the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade). She listened to me at length over the phone and took the time to explain the finer details of how to succeed with the HR policies, operations strategies, accounting and reporting we had to build. On our third phone call, this (now wonderful in my eyes) government lady told me she has two little ones herself and she felt compelled to 'really push hard' for Project Kindy to be approved for DGR status. We both choked up a little. I wasn't expecting to find a passionate advocate within a DFAT DGR process - but good-hearted people are everywhere. Just this week the ATO has confirmed we have met their criteria for operating a Public Fund. Although we haven't been given the big nod just yet, it's clear that we are close to this important milestone on our not-for-profit journey. We need your help as we come of age as a charity. There is something we need to do urgently! We need official Project Kindy Members who have an inner-circle relationship with the Committee and support us by attending our Annual General Meeting. At the AGM you will receive our Annual Report, nominate and vote in the Committee members for the year and vote on any general business items. You would be instrumental in building a strong structure for our grassroots initiative. It's only a 2-hour-a-year commitment! We are excited to announce our first AGM will be via Zoom on Saturday August 22 at 2pm - 4pm. Simply click the link below and follow the prompts to join our Project Kindy Members Register and you will receive an email invitation to our AGM via Zoom. Thank you so much. Hopefully, the next time you hear from us will be with some great news! That will definitely be a reason to celebrate (COVID-safely of course). Donna

05.01.2022 Supporter Spotlight: Sr Melissa Dwyer is the Australian Provincial of the Canossian Daughters of Charity (most senior role) and the reason Project Kindy was even born. Sr Mel served the poor in Malawi for 8 years and during her time there, in 2011, she told Donna Power that the greatest need to support was finding funding for the kindergarten. The subsistence families could not afford the $4/month fees and the convent kindy was vulnerable to closing. Fast forward to the ...present day and now we support 11 kindergartens with nearly 850 children! This is all because Sr Mel, and other nuns, have chosen to live lives of purpose, serving and living amongst the poor. We have so much respect for Sr Mel's journey of service and love for the poor and we are honoured to support the Canossians in their ministry. Of course, we are so grateful Sr Mel is part of the Project Kindy Village and that she is available to help us in different ways.
