25.01.2022 Getting clean, safe drinking water to temporary schools and camps are high priority. This camp has a population of over 350 all living in a few tents while they proceed to rebuild. Due to close living and over population in camps, disease can spread like wild fire, with contaminated water a imminent source of infection. ... Where did you travel Cambodia When did you travel January 2017 With anyone (e.g Friends, family, group) Daughter Describe your CWC experience: Cambodia is full of fabulous & friendly people. It is also full of rubbish & disease - malaria, dengue and hepatitis being reasonably common. In the wet season, water is plentiful, as are mosquitos. In the dry season the locals are forced to drink from water they have collected in their "Rain Jars" and then from whatever else they can find - poluted rivers and muddy ponds. This has led to a high rate of child mortality, and that sucks! My daughter & I worked in a rural village 80km outside of Siem Reap. We had a translator and 10 filters. A group of local villagers gathered with their buckets and we showed then how to assemble the filters. To prove the point, I scoopd out some scary looking water from a local pond, filtered it and drank a cup. The crew assembled were convinced, so we helped them fit their filters and sent them merrily on their way. It was so easy and so rewarding - anyone can do this and it will change the lives of the people you are helping.
