19.01.2022 Tip of the week from Propeller Repairs Australia: Do you know if you are using the correct Propeller? Matching the right prop to your Boat / Engine combination is the most significant factor for Optimum Performance, Motor Longevity & Fuel Efficiency ; Make sure yours is the right one in 3 Easy Steps: 1/ Determine the Manufacturers Recommended RPMs for your engine [In your Owners Manual or check with your dealer] ... 2 / Test for maximum RPM: With your boat loaded the usual way, push your engine @ wide open throttle & vary the trim angle to get the best performance. 3 / Check the Tachometer reading: Your engine should operate within the RPMs recommended by the Manufacturer, with the best propeller allowing the Motor to get as close as possible to the Maximum rpms. .Next Time : I am not getting the correct RPMs For my Engine; What are the effects on my engine & can I change my Propeller for Optimum Performance?

15.01.2022 Tip of the week, If you followed our previous recommendations & checked that your Engine can get to its Maximum RPM @ wide open throttle, you know your Propeller is the right size for your Boat/Engine combination..If you engine can’t get the right RPM, what are the drawbacks & what can you do? Q1: My engine is over-revving @ wide open throttle: ... A: If your engine goes over its recommended RPM, the Propeller is too small in Pitch. The acceleration is probably good but the boat is not achieving its optimum cruising speed & the fuel consumption will be also higher than normal [ think of it like using your car in 5th Gear on the Highway when you should be in 6th Gear ]. This Propeller is not the correct size for cruising but would be however well suited for Skiing or to be used for days when your boat is heavily loaded. Q2: My engine can’t get to its Maximum recommended RPM: A: Your Propeller is too high in Pitch & putting too much load on your engine. It may give your boat a good top end speed but the fuel consumption will be quite high & the constant strain on the engine could be detrimental to its longevity [ think of it like using the 2nd Gear instead of the 1st Gear in your car when taking-off ] Q3: My engine is under-revving or over-revving, how do I know what size to buy? A: As a rule of thumb every Inch of Pitch will change the rpm of an engine by around 250-300 so if, let’s say, your engine is rated at 6000rpm but can get up to 6500rpm, buying a propeller two sizes higher than the one you are currently using should bring the rpm very close to the correct rev-range. The other way around, if your engine can’t go past 5300 instead of the 6000, a propeller with 3 less of Pitch than your actual propeller should get you pretty much the correct rpm. If still unsure, don’t hesitate to contact us so we can use our more complex formula to calculate the exact Size you need to use. Next Tip; 3 Blades, 4 Blades, 5 Blades Propeller, which one should I use?
