24.01.2022 This weeks #SketchbookProjectWA highlights are varied in medium and content! Annabella C.s two-page collage spread has a dream like quality with clouds, long roads, a map, a big clownfish and the words "Where do I go from here?". Laylas simple pencil portrait with linear lines makes us wonder who the subject is. ... Lexies pages feature bold colours and fast food: fries, burger, chicken drumstick, pizza, doughnut and cake! All of these sketchbooks are one of a kind, and we hope youve been enjoying these highlights as much as we have sharing them.

24.01.2022 Kaya yall, weve got some exciting news!! Wed like to warmly introduce our Youth Week WA 2021 Creative Coordinator, Patrick Gunasekera! Were so excited to have Patrick on board with the Propel Team and cant wait to build an incredible Youth Week WA KickstART Festival 2021 with him! Growing up around Manjoogoordap (Mandurah), Patricks earliest memories of art building bridges between people and places are of the critical conversations with his peers. ... Over the last three years, Patricks work spanning multiple forms and genres have been produced, performed, exhibited, published, and presented widely across independent, industry, and community led frameworks of creative practice. Patrick is also a local veteran of youth climate justice and LGBTIQA+ advocacy organising, and has more recently worked in systemic advocacy for young people of migrant background and survivors of violence against children. Read more about him on our Team page: https://www.propel.org.au/team ID: Two different photographs of Patrick from the hips up standing in front of a light-toned brick wall. Patrick is a light-skinned biracial/Desi young adult, with medium-length curly black hair, a beard, and a short and slim build. In both photos, Patrick wears a dark blue, short-sleeved, button up shirt made of Sri Lankan batik fabric and with black and white botanical designs in the batik fabric. He also wears dark blue trousers, a black wristwatch, a gold necklace, small black and gold dangling earrings, and the top of his hair is fastened into a top knot by a small, dark blue, floral hair piece. In the photo on the left, Patrick stands front on and looking into the camera, with a wide by relaxed smile, and with his right hand in his pocket, and his left hand resting on the handle of a black walking cane. In the photo on the right, Patrick holds his cane with both hands under his chin and with his fingers spread. He holds the end of the cane higher than the handle and has his face turned upward and to his right, looking in the direction the end of the cane is pointing, and smiling. End ID.

It is really important to be equipped in conversation and know how to approach and help someone in need. The initial R U OK? is great and opens up conversation, but sometimes its tricky to navigate what comes after.... Here are 4 general steps you can take to help someone in need: 1. Ask R U OK? 2. Listen with an open mind 3. Encourage action 4. Check in Take some time today to check in on your friends, family and work mates, especially if you havent heard from them in a while. Life is tough and is up and down, and not to mention COVID-19, so a small check in can do wonders. For more resources on how to help someone: https://www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

17.01.2022 And that’s a wrap for 2020! We joke that this year probably belongs in a large dumpster fire of hell, obvious reasons aside we had to cancel our 2020 KickstART Festival one month before it set to launch, the team had to break up and learn how to work productively from home and all our office plants nearly died But you know what, despite that we managed to put together an online festival within 5 weeks and nab a Grammy Award winning artist to present a masterclass, all Pr...opel staff are healthy and we were back together in the office much sooner than anticipated, gearing up for the 2021 Festival. We were lucky, and we do not take that luck for granted. A lot of young people suffered the hardest this year, whether they lost their job, struggled to pay rent or had to deal with major changes in their schooling and education. If your mental health took a dip this year then we do not blame you, we’re right there with you and next year we will make the health of young people our priority. We look forward to taking on new challenges in 2021 (please not COVID again though) and continue to creative a cohesive and inclusive community for young people and young creatives. Have a wonderful Christmas, New Year and we hope you all have a good, well deserved break. Make sure to drink water, wear sun protection, stay cool and have a nice time with your friends and family! The Office will be closed until 4 January. We’ll see you in 2021. Love, The Propel Team ID: A team photo of Propel, each staff member is featured in ornate frames.
