23.01.2022 Star Casinos rejected 51-storey tower has been resurrected. This comes with the publication of a draft 20-year strategy for the development of Pyrmont, announced by Sydney Mayor, Clover Moore. The NSW government released its draft planning strategy, announcing its vision for Pyrmont as a home for innovation, employment and entertainment.... The proposed $530 million hotel and residential tower, designed by FJMT, was recommended for rejection by the planning department and was ultimately axed by the Independent Planning Commission. Concerns were raised that the government was looking for ways to get around the ruling when it announced the review into planning rules as part of this 20-year strategy. The plans would provide for up to 800,000 square metres of new commercial and office space that would support a mix of hi-tech, tourism, media and information industries. 23.01.2022 Turner, Silvester Fuller has designed a 36-story tower that will be situated in the Sydney suburb of Crows Nest. The apartment tower will be the tallest in the area and will occupy an entire block known as Fiveways Junction, between the Pacific Highway and Falcon Street. The 140-metre tower will comprise three interconnected mini-towers. Nineteen existing allotments will be demolished for the development, which will feature a five-storey podium housing a mix of retail, commer...cial and community spaces. In all, the development will accommodate 310 dwellings and 10,000 square metres of non-residential floor space in flexible floorplate sizes. 11.01.2022 The Reserve Bank of Australia has held official interest rates at a record low at 0.25%, ahead of new data set to confirm the nations deepest economic downturn since the 1930s. Following its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, RBA governor Philip Lowe confirmed official rates would remain where they have been since March. The meeting was the banks last before the June national accounts to be released on Wednesday, which are expected to show the economy contracting by at lea...st 5% through the quarter. Economists expect the figures to confirm Australias first recession since 1990-91. Dr Lowe said the economy was going through a "very difficult period," but it was not as severe as originally feared. "This recovery is, however, likely to be both uneven and bumpy, with the Coronavirus outbreak in Victoria having a major effect on the Victorian economy," he said. CoreLogics monthly measure of house values showed Melbourne suffered the biggest hit of any capital through August, falling by 1.4%, while Sydneys house values dipped by 0.5% in August. 06.01.2022 The Reserve Bank has held the cash rate at 0.25%, where it has been since late March, whilst expressing concern about the economic fallout from the stage-four lockdown of Melbourne. RBA governor, Philip Lowe, said while the current downturn was not as severe as the bank originally feared, it was still going to be "uneven and bumpy", with the coronavirus outbreak in Victoria having a major impact. He said the banks baseline scenario was that the Australian economy contracted ...by 6% this year before growing by 5% in 2021. Dr Lowe said the economy would enjoy a stronger recovery if progress was made controlling the coronavirus "in the near future". But failure to do so would see the recovery in the general economy and the jobs market delayed. Markets had expected the RBA to hold rates, with the bank signalling it would not start lifting them until inflation approached its 2-3% target range, and the job market was strengthening.
