09.01.2022 Delighted to share a quick interview with Desley today who sold her property in Thabeban last month. Big thanks for taking the time to share this with us Desley! Were you hesitant before trying private selling? Desley: No not hesitant. I was confident that I could achieve a better price for our home, because we knew it and loved it. I believe our passion for the place would be contagious.... What service from PropertyNow assisted you most? Desley: Extremely helpful when setting up and advising on copy and the property market in general. What was the hardest part for you personally and how did you overcome it? Desley: The hardest part for us was that we didn't live in the same city and therefore had to rely on our wonderful daughter who lives in town to meet with buyers. We had lots of inspections. How did buyers react when they found out you were selling this way, without a traditional agent? Desley: Some were surprised when they realised they were talking directly to the owner. There were no negative results. If you could go back in time and give yourself some advice before selling your own home, what would it be? Desley: I think it all went well and I can't think of anything I would do differently. We may have achieved a higher price if the property was vacant, but who knows? My advice to others is to fully research the market before setting your price. Certainly seek advice from agents, but also inspect similar properties in the market close to yours so you know what you are competing with. In our case, our property was quite unique and therefore we knew it would be just a matter of time before someone really fell in love with it. When you sold your property yourself, how did it feel? What do you plan to do now that you’ve sold? Desley: It felt wonderful. We were very relaxed about it all and didn't stress about whether or not the sale 'might' fall through. We had already relocated and had tenants in place. Our plan now is to pay off some of our debt, and hopefully will enable us to fully retire.
