24.01.2022 Dior’s battle with a brown snake! Dior was found laying down in the round yard unable to stand up, she tried multiple times but couldn’t find her feet! The owner phoned the clinic and needed a vet ASAP! When we arrived a full assessment was made and a clotting test performed to confirm she had been bitten by a brown snake. We promptly administered antivenom but the battle was far from over. ... Over the next 6 days her owners gave her intensive supportive therapy. They supplied her with shade, food and water, and continued medications. They also had a team of helpers to roll her several time daily to attempt to minimise pressure sores. They were nearly at their wits end, thinking she may not pull though the ordeal, when she suddenly leaped off the ground without any encouragement and trotted off into the paddock. Left with a few abrasions and a superficial eye ulcer Dior has returned to normal daily life. Great efforts to all involved with saving this beauty’s life!

10.01.2022 Baby Blue and Princess Mini’s 6 night hospital stay after taking on a brown snake!! These two siblings came into the clinic after their owners noticed blood pouring out of their mouth. An activated clotting test was performed on both dogs but unfortunately they weren’t clotting. Which could only mean two things.. rat sake or brown snake. After further examination snake bite was definitely the case we were dealing with. After two vials of snake anti-venom, plasma, nasal oxyge...n, several bags of fluids, medications, critical vet and nurse care, and were lucky enough to pull both Blue and Mini through! We hope next time we see them it’s only for annual vaccines Please note that these videos may be confronting to some viewers.

07.01.2022 We are very sad to acknowledge the loss of a wonderfully giving person, Barb Adamson. Our sympathies to all who loved her and will sorely miss her. Soo community minded, soo giving, soo inspiring! She loved living things generally and made a positive difference to countless of them! What a treasure of our Whitsundays, she has left an indelible mark.

04.01.2022 Dane saves baby Dane Luna presented to the clinic on a Wednesday morning after having some bloody diarrhoea. Her mum had only had her for a week and said she was a very quiet puppy but had suddenly developed diarrhoea that morning and had been very depressed. On examination we found her gums were very pale indicating she was likely anaemic. First step was performing a parvo test where thankfully she was negative! We next examined her faeces to find she had a significant ho...ok worm burden. Once we knew hook worm was the culprit, we did a blood test and found she was severely anaemic. She had so little red blood cells that she was at risk of passing away within hours. Nurse Naomi jumped into action and went to get her Great Dane Mack so he could give blood to save Lunas life. Little Luna was much happier before the blood transfusion had even finished and was wagging her tail and eating chicken by that afternoon. She was treated with a liquid worming medication to kill the hook worm and her mum said she is a different dog compared with the first week she had her! Thank you, Mack!! DID YOU KNOW: Puppies require intestinal worming every two weeks until 12 old as they get this parasite off drinking milk from their mother. If you are uncertain if your new puppy has had regular worming it doesn’t hurt to worm them when you pick them up to avoid a hospital!

03.01.2022 PVS cured the incurable. FIP Disease (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) Curtis came into the clinic on the 17th of February after his owner noticed he had a bloated stomach and was off his food. After performing a thorough physical examination a provisional diagnosis of FIP was made where there is a 100% mortality rate! Days later FIP was confirmed after the results of his abdominocentesis (abdominal fluid collection) returned. Curtis’s mum could not imagine life without him ...and after some extensive research was able to find a treatment that had only recently become legal in Australia. Treatment involved daily injections of an antiviral medication that Curtis was not always keen to volunteer for. After 3 months of injections and a few hospital admissions to get him feeling better, he is now officially in remission. Curtis is the luckiest cat in the world to have his mum stand by him through the bad as this treatment is also very expensive! We wish Curtis all the best for a long and healthy life!
