23.01.2022 Governor-General David Hurley has announced Her Majesty the Queen has approved the posthumous awarding of the Victoria Cross to Teddy Sheean, after almost 78 years. The 18-year-old Edward ‘Teddy’ Sheean ignored orders to abandon ship in 1942 when the HMAS Armidale came under heavy fire from Japanese bombers and fighter planes. Governor-General Hurley said it is a momentous day for the Sheean family.

16.01.2022 Today is Vietnam Veterans Day. Each year, on 18 August, we commemorate the men of D Company, 6RAR who fought in the battle of Long Tan in 1966. On that day, 10...8 Australian and New Zealand soldiers fought a pitched battle against over 2,000 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops in a rubber plantation not far from the small village of Long Tan. The Australians prevailed, but only after fighting in torrential rain for four hours. Eighteen Australians lost their lives and 24 were wounded, the largest number of casualties in one operation since the Australian task force had arrived a few months earlier. After the battle the bodies of 245 enemy soldiers were found, but there was evidence that many more bodies had been carried away. #VietnamVeteransDay Read more about the battle of Long Tan: http://ow.ly/A1k550AT7He Image: After the battle of Long Tan weary men of Delta Company, 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiments, gather on a landing zone for a quick meal before returning to the battlefield. 03.01.2022 The Defence Safety Board recently divulged they had covertly funded a project with the vehicle suppliers of all Forces vehicles for the past 30 years. Under this plan the auto makers were installing black box voice recorders in four-wheel drive, staff cars, tanks, trucks, plant and all other vehicles in an effort to determine, in all accidents, the circumstances in the last 15 seconds before the crash. They were surprised to find that in all incidents the recorded last words ...of drivers in 61.2 percent of crashes were, "Oh Shit!" It was only the ones involving Engineers personnel in which the last words were different. In these cases 89.3 percent of the final words were: "Hold my beer, I'm going to try something’!" ~Thanks for the Thursday funny Carl...

02.01.2022 Royal Australian Navy to receive first Victoria Cross. The PM has recommended the Queen posthumously award World War II hero Edward 'Teddy' Sheean a Victoria Cr...oss, the Navy’s first VC recipient. Sheean, an 18-year-old with less than two years at sea, was an Ordinary Seaman on the minesweeper HMAS Armidale when it came under heavy attack from Japanese aircraft off the coast of what is now Timor-Leste in 1942. Sheean is recorded as helping launch life rafts before returning to his anti-aircraft gun to fire at enemy aircraft that were strafing his shipmates as they floundered in the water, despite the order having been given to abandon ship. Witness accounts from the day have him firing as the ship sank. He was never seen again. Lest we forget. #TPE Source: ABC news
