22.01.2022 Education is key, so here at Pro Shift Automatics we thought we'd take you through some of the issues we see and what it takes for us to fix it. These photos are a before anf after of a transmission that was compromised by water. Most transmission oil is cooled via a separate core inside your car's radiator. When the core ruptures inside the radiator, water mixes with the oil and is carried through the transmission which causes irreversible damage. Because of this a complete transmission overhaul is required before your vehicle is able to be driven. If you notice a screeching noise while driving or irregular gear change movement in your car, you may have water in your transmission. Make sure you give us a call to ensure an accurate diagnosis is given!

21.01.2022 People often ask how my automatic transmission changes gear so we thought we'd give you a quick run down on the basics. First off we have the TCM (computer) and solenoid assembly. The TCM receives inputs from the vehicle and then activates the solenoids to shift the gears up and down. Next we have the valve body assembly and separator plates. When the solenoids are activated, the fluid is directed through a series of valves and holes in the separator plate, which is then fed ...into the main gearbox case to engage and disengage clutches and bands. Note: not all gear boxes have bands. The "brains" of the transmission is the most affected component and has the highest risk of causing transmission failure due to lack of servicing. We recommend a service every 20,000km to 30,000km (dependent on gear box). Give us a call today to talk about servicing your transmission! See more
