19.01.2022 St Cuthbert’s Church. Prospect

19.01.2022 A combined service was held on the 27th of September at St. Cuthbert’s Prospect to bid farewell to Arch Deacon Lyn McRostie after serving the Parish of Prospect for two years. This was followed by a farewell lunch.

14.01.2022 HELLO AGAIN! This Sunday we celebrate the coming of the Holy Ghost and we have two short but wonderful pieces for choir, both by Orlando Gibbons. Gibbons was one of of the very first Anglican composers and he wrote many of our first congregational hymns, along with many wonderful longer pieces for choirs to sing. First up is the hymn 'Come Holy Ghost', sung by the Rastatter Church Choir with Jurgen Ochs.... The second, very short piece, is the 'Threefold Amen'. It was written during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I and has been played at the coronation of every English monarch since Edward VII. This particular recording was actually made at he coronation of Elizabeth II and is sung by the Westminster Abbey Choir. We often sing this piece after the gospel reading. 'Peace Perfect Peace is another favourite which many of you, the congregation, have asked us to sing. - Grahame Dudley, Musical Director for St Cuthbert's

13.01.2022 Music for Sunday 18 October 2020 Hullo again Today the music has been chosen by our very own Anthony Clayfield, whom we love for all he does and all he is.... He has selected the very popular hymn: All Things Bright Bright and Beautiful All Creatures Great and Small When asked for a second choice, Anthony chose ---- ALL THINGS BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL So, undeterred and a great believer in variety and the spice of life, I found another setting of the same poem. The first is by William Monk, and sung by the choir of Paisley Abbey with Alexander Anderson. The second is by Martin Shaw and is sung by the Morman Tabernacle Choir with Craig Jessop. Happy listening Grahame Dudley, musical director for St Cuthberts

05.01.2022 Hello again everyone. Today's piece is a favourite, 'God Be in my Head'. It is by Henry Walford - Davies, whose brother became the first professor of music at the Elder Conservatorium in 1895 (A bit before my time!).... - Grahame Dudley, Director of Music at St Cuthbert's

05.01.2022 Arch Deacon Lyn Mcrosti’s farewell lunch at Windmill Hotel Prospect.

04.01.2022 Music for Sunday, 14 June 2020 HELLO EVERYONE I was talking to our priest Lyn this week about the approaching 'Ordinary Sundays' now that Ascension, Pentecost and Holy Trinity have all passed. I have taken up the idea which Lyn suggested, which is to remind us of the good things, the beautiful things, the special things, that happen in our church. So, from our last Christmas Carol Service are two lovely pieces which we love singing and which many of you have told us you l...oved too. The first piece is NOEL TZIGANE (this is also known as 'A Gypsy Christmas', however the term 'Gypsy' is considered an offensive slur by many of the people who prefer to call themselves 'Romani'), which places the birth of Jesus in a humble Romani setting. This piece was composed by Francis Volery and sung here by L"Accroche Coir of Friborg. Our second piece is HACIA BELEN (A DONKEY IS CARRYING CHOCOLATES TO BETHLEHEM). This is a Spanish childrens’ favourite Christmas carol, sung by The Robert Shaw Chorale. - Grahame Dudley, musical director for St Cuthbert's

02.01.2022 The first piece today is a Sanctus, 'Holy, holy, holy, holy 'neath the Sun', by Franz Schubert. It is taken from his folk mass, which is a very simple setting of the mass suitable for everyone to sing - not just the choir! It is sung in this recording by the Immortal Bach Ensemble with Morton Schuldt-Jensen The second piece is by another German composer, Anton Bruckner, and is titled 'Locus Iste', or 'This Place is made by God'. It is a priceless sacrament and is sung here... by Chorus Viennensis with Peter Marschik. The choir sings both these pieces often, almost always during communion. We hope you enjoy them and hope we will be back singing them soon. - Grahame Dudley, musical director for St Cuthbert's

01.01.2022 Bishop Denise Ferguson, Bishop Chris McLeod and Archdeacon Lyn McRostie conducted the Commemoration for the Martyrs of New Guinea at St Cuthbert’s, Prospect On Sunday 6 September , 2020. Lilla Lashmar was one of the martyrs from St Cuthbert’s killed in 1942.

01.01.2022 Hullo once again. Grahame Dudley once more with two more beautiful pieces which our choir love to sing. Today's pieces have been chosen by Ivan Asirvadham, a very long time member of our choir's bass section. Both pieces are by the same composer, Orlando Gibbons. The first is the hymn 'Peace, Perfect Peace', as sung by the Blackburn Cathedral Choir. The verses are: 'Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin?... The blood of Jesus whispers peace within. Peace perfect peace, by thronging duties pressed? To do the will of Jesus, this is rest. Peace, perfect peace, with sorrows surging round? On Jesus' bosom naught but calm is found.' The second piece is a short motet for choir called 'O Lord, Increase My Faith'. It is sung here by Kings College Choir with Boris Ord: 'O Lord, increase our faith, strengthen us and confirm us in Thy true faith; endue us with wisdom, charity, chastity, and patience, in all our adversities. Sweet Jesu say Amen' I hope you enjoy hearing them again, I certainly have. Finally, thank you to Ivan for selecting these beautiful pieces. - Grahame Dudley, musical director for St Cuthbert's

01.01.2022 HELLO EVERYBODY! Two pieces today - both of which are about our church and both of which we sing often. One is a popular hymn and the other a short motet for choir. First, a famous hymn by Samuel Wesley:... ''The church's one foundation Is Jesus Christ, her lord.’’ My first favourite hymn as a child; not because we went to church, but because it featured in the film 'Lease of Life' with Robert Donat as a gentle priest. I had admired Donat for being the swashbuckling Count of Monte Cristo. It is sung here by the choir of King’s College Cambridge, led by Stephen Cleobury. Next is a beautiful little motet by the Austrian Composer Anton Bruckner. He was a devoted Catholic and church musician who also wrote some of the biggest, longest and greatest symphonies. Locus Iste "This place was made by God A priceless sacrament" It is sung here by the Vienna Chorus and Vienna Boys Choir, led by Peter Marschik. - Grahame Dudley, musical director for St Cuthberts
