18.01.2022 High ankle sprain vs. regular ankle sprain- do you know the difference? High ankle sprains can lead to a lot of frustration, with those suffering this injury often left wondering why its taking so long to get better. A high ankle sprain takes significantly longer to heal when compared to a regular ankle sprain, where its common for athletes to play through pain. At the elite level, athletes have the luxury of physios, doctors and MRI scans on hand, but others arent so lucky. Look out for the signs and symptoms!

16.01.2022 How fast can a marathon be run? A combination of work ethic, dedication and appropriate training program design will see you avoid injury, maximise your performance and get closer to your genetic potential. Ever tried running on a treadmill at the current world record pace? For all the runners out there, try cranking the speed up to 20.5km p/hr. This was the world record holders average pace for 2 hours, 2 minutes and 57 seconds!

14.01.2022 It doesnt look like much, but this hamstring injury will probably cost Gary Ablett 3-4+ weeks in rehab! Here are the stats: - 16 senior AFL players currently in rehab and wont play this weekend because of a hamstring injury - 5 new hamstring injuries each season per club on average... - Recurrence rate of 15% - Highest number of games missed for any injury on average per season If you find yourself having trouble with a hamstring injury, give us a call for a proper assessment and treatment by a sports physio to get you back playing and to reduce your risk of re-injury!

14.01.2022 Do you have a written rehab program for your injury? We are big believers in prescribing written rehab and/or prehab programs to help our patients recover or manage any injury problems. Youre much more likely to stick to it if its written down and you track your progress each week. We practice what we preach... heres the latest one for our physio Kris, one of many (unfortunately) hes followed over the years!... If youre in need of a rehab program, give us a call or text at 0415 889 903, email at [email protected] or visit our website at prosportphysio.com.au for more info.

04.01.2022 ACL INJURIES Round 1 of the AFL season unfortunately saw two serious knee injuries to two of the games elite players. How can these seemingly innocuous incidents rupture one of the most important stabilising ligaments in the knee leading to 10-12 months on the side-lines?... It doesnt seem like much, but analysing the pictures below reveal two typical scenarios leading to an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury- the knee buckling inwards when landing from a jump or trying to change direction. Unfortunately, the ACL very rarely heals itself. For high-level athletes, this means surgery to reconstruct this important ligament and 10-12 months of rehabilitation! Can ACL injuries be prevented? There are many factors which can contribute to an athletes risk for suffering an ACL injury. Some risk factors are modifiable (e.g. hip and knee strength and control), while some are not (internal structure of the knee, flexibility of the connective tissues). The best you can do to prevent such an injury is focus on correcting any modifiable risk factors with the guidance of your physiotherapist!

04.01.2022 VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY IN ATHLETES Its important to consider all potential biomechanics factors that could explain why an injury may have occurred. It is also important however to take a holistic view with recurrent problems and consider things like diet and even Vitamin D levels! See your doc to get this one checked!
