24.01.2022 We are hearing of some reports of smoke tainted water in water tanks. As yet I can not find information on the Mornington Peninsula Shire website. The excerpt below is recommendations from the South Gippsland Shire and Department of Health And Human Services. Basically, if your tank water smells a little like smoke, the DHHS recommend not to drink the water.... Please don’t waste or dump that water. It is fine for use in bathrooms, gardens and laundry. This may be a recurring issue over the coming weeks or months. https://www.southgippsland.vic.gov.au//smoke_taint_in_wate
21.01.2022 While the almighty Burrumbuttock Hay Runners are sending off another awesome amount of hay to Northern NSW, the quiet little team on the Mornington Peninsula have once again this year has been working hard to source, cut and deliver donated hay to farmers in East Gippsland in dire need due to drought and fire. Yesterday this load went to a farmer just east of Orbost. A huge thankyou to all who have donated hay, time and money to help those in need. If you have excess hay in the central MornPen we can help find a deserving home for it.
17.01.2022 Further to yesterday’s post re water in household tanks being tainted. We are recommending you disconnect or divert any water inflows into your tank until the smoke emergency has passed. Any rain we have passing through smoke contaminated air will pollute your drinking water. Reconnect once it is clear. If your tank is already affected, do not drink the water, use in food preparation or give to pets. It is deemed safe for other uses.... I contacted the MPSC health officials today. Their advice is it is not a MPSC issue but the responsibility of individual property owners to ensure their drinking water is safe and not contaminated. Recommendations on managing your situation are found on the following website. https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au//bushfires-and-water-t
15.01.2022 Uncle George was an inspiration to a young boy. In 1964, Graeme sat in the cabin of the S series Kenworth and was hooked!
