25.01.2022 Reasons for Uncomfortable Dentures There are many reasons why your dentures just don't feel comfortable. It could be anything from getting used to your first set, or the practitioner not giving you a the correct treatment. Your first set of denture being either a partial or full denture can be very difficult to manage. Firstly, having a foreign object in your mouth can cause you to salivate a lot more than usual, this tends to reduce as you become a custom to your new denture...s. Your gums can become quite sensitive and can ulcerate in certain spots ( this tend to vary between patients ), you will need to have more adjustment appointments compared to a second time denture wearer. It is important that the practitioner explains these first few hurdles, I tend to inform my patients that they need to persevere through this period and everything will start to feel normal. On the other hand there are patients that complain that they have had dentures for months or even years and still find their dentures very uncomfortable. In my experience when I treat a patient in this situation usually I find that the dentures have not been poorly constructed. It could be anything from a poor impression, incorrect bite where the teeth just don't match the opposing dentition, teeth in the wrong position, ill fitting or acrylic is too thick.
