25.01.2022 Highly sensitive (HS) children tend to experience more distress and give up more easily when they confront a challenging task or can’t master a new skill right away. I had a son who was a ‘perfectionist’, if he hadn’t completely mastered a skill he wasn’t willing to share/show his progress or competence. It’s a hard life, feeling like you need to be perfect at everything (or anything). It takes away the joy of learning and of small achievements and puts too much pressure on people and situations - particularly for children.

22.01.2022 Can you believe it! Our Victorian VCE and VET students are sitting their last exams today. This year’s cohort have done their very best throughout a global pandemic, lockdown and months of remote learning, sitting all their exams in masks, concerns about later and altered timetables and more. And they’ve done it. 2020 has highlighted a group of resilient, adaptive, stronger students than any other year. They each deserve our congratulations and support. Here’s hoping they a...re able to [covid safely] celebrate. 21.01.2022 Almost every parent I talk to feels guilty about yelling at their kids. That guilt usually comes from a feeling like they're ruining their child forever. And th...at's a lot of guilt for us to hold! But instead of focusing on yelling, the most important thing is what you do after you lose your cool. Forgive. Repair. Connect. If you worry about being able to keep that 5-1 ratio in balance, or if you're just really tired of the yelling, check out my free workshop "3 Mistakes Parents Make When Trying to Get Their Kids to Listen" Inside you'll learn the three things parents can do differently to get their kids to listen without having to yell. These three mistakes are mistakes that almost every single parent I work with has made at one time or another...including myself! Come learn what they are, how you may be doing them, and what to do instead. It's free and packed full of tips that help! https://messymotherhood.com/3-mistakes

16.01.2022 Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, children are spending more time online than ever before, chatting on gaming platforms, posting selfies on Instagram and making TikTok videos for friends (and the rest of the world) to see.

09.01.2022 You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give. Kahlil Gibran At our house we’ve been working hard on producing less waste - we have reusable coffee pods, Teflon mats instead of baking paper, have given up cling wrap and tried to buy only what we really need (rather than want). The same applies to shopping for Christmas gifts. I’m all for experiences or items that will be loved and used for many years, and maybe by multiple people. And while you’re thinking of Christmas shopping - have a think of the gifts we can give to our children every day throughout their lives.

06.01.2022 Watch out for Christmas craft, games, articles and activities this month. Yes, I’m one of ‘those’ people. Big fan of all things Christmas - big fan!

06.01.2022 My heart goes out to these children. They are not statistics they are real kids who are being or have been sexually abused. I am so outraged! Why aren't more people? Help advocates like me to help protect kids by educating adults in the importance of preventative Body Safety Education.

04.01.2022 It’s December first - in my house day one of Christmas prep and playing carols and starting to think about shopping for gifts. This year the Santa photos won’t be as cute, but do you know what - I’m actually loving this year’s #socially_distanced, #covid_safe #Santa visits at shopping centres and elsewhere. Every year it’s so important that we respect our children's 'gut feelings' and personal boundaries... even if it means you don't get a "cute" picture of them on Santa’s... lap or kissing and cuddling a family member! Your child may have good reasons to be terrified of being placed on a stranger’s lap, alone, and with you grinning maniacally and trying to snap photos. I see many pictures going around of parents' who think it's cute and amusing that their child is hysterical and crying in these pictures and while I recognize that many parents see it as innocent fun and something very short-lived, it still sends a message to your child that decisions about their body are not theirs and that they don't have a choice in who they are physically close with. While seemingly innocent and "fun", this can be the very opposite message you want your child to have when it comes to a potentially abusive situation when someone with ill intent is attempting to cross those same physical boundaries with your child. Make sure you're the one to validate your child's intuition and help them be "The Boss of Their Own Body!" See more

02.01.2022 A few gift ideas that I love for 6 month - 3 year olds. (A large age range because kids range greatly in their needs and abilities). The majority are suitable f...or 12 months+ but it’s great to give those younger something that they can use when they’re older/ready (and that they’ll get more use out of as baby toys are grown out of more quickly). If you do an online search for the names I’ve listed below, you should see different options pop up in your area, and I’ve tagged a few brands/stockists (tap on the images). IMAGE 1/1 1. Rainmaker 2.
