16.01.2022 When you work with people to customize their work-life fit, you arent imposing anything on them. Youre treating them with respect and trust. Which will be returned. And when talented employees decide to work from home three days a week, they are making a serious commitment to the organization. Instead of working for you, they are working with you. This builds enormous buy-in and a better workplace culture!

15.01.2022 Are You a Family Friendly Manager? The lack of work life balance and the flexibility to juggle a career and a family is within the top 5 reason's many professionals leave their employers. Halfway through the school holidays we have realised just how lucky we are at Protege to have the flexibility to bring children into the office and the trust of Management to leave the office when personal or family situations arise. ... Being supportive and understanding of family situations is a fantastic way to retain Superstar employee's!

13.01.2022 Tip of the day: Never say "I Just Need a Job" No company wants to be your last resort! When applying for a job you need to show passion and determination. Theres no shame in needing a job, it is of course a necessity in life. However, this isnt something you should be sharing during an interview scenario. Candidates who sound as though they really want the job, and illustrate thirst for challenge and the ability to add value will be the successful ones.

12.01.2022 Beautiful flowers from a happy job seeker- Well done Sarah-Jane Thomas!

12.01.2022 Your staff are your number one asset and retaining them is important. Having a staff retention plan in place is essential for every company small or large and it should start from the day an offer is made to join your team! Tip of the day: When going through an agency or recruiting yourself it is important that your new employee has some form of contact from you immediately (that day) once the offer is made. Whether it is a phone call or an email it is important you welcome them to the team personally especially if an outside source is making the offer for you.

08.01.2022 Self awareness can positively influence our physical and psychological well-being. As we increase self awareness we become aware of our emotions and we improve our ability to respond to challenging situations. This benefits not only ourselves but it can make our time at work a more engaged and enjoyable experience!

07.01.2022 Recruitment Tip of The Day: Get rid of those scripted & predictable interview questions. Take away the formal interview questions and you can take away the formal scripted answers.... Instead of candidates telling you what you want to hear they feel more comfortable speaking honestly and openly with you about their employment history, why they left their last role and what they are looking for long term. Forget questions like- " What is your biggest weakness" or " Where do you see yourself in ten years time?" and have a conversation, get to know your potential employee!

05.01.2022 Feeling a little flat at work today today? perhaps you would have liked to stay home & relax on the sofa like SJ's dog Hamish? Lack of motivation can result from a number of causes including burnout, an overloaded desk, not enough sleep, boredom & more . It is perfectly normal to have a less-than-productive day from time to time, it is just important that you acknowledge it and take the steps to get your mind back in the game!

05.01.2022 Friday Tip- Always make sure you do your research before an interview :)

05.01.2022 Arn't we lucky here in Perth to have this in our back garden! One of our consultants went for a walk at lunch time yesterday and spotted this pod of dolphins!

02.01.2022 Interview Tip of the day:

02.01.2022 What are you doing to make your company attractive to potential recruits? What are you doing to retain your key staff? When you tell candidates in interview that your company offer's flexibility, what does that actually mean?... Hello from my comfy sofa.... :P I am working from home today, my colleges are able to attend their children's assemblies, we have kids in the office (even my dog last week). True flexibility builds trust & respect and most importantly retains staff. I have been with Protege Recruitment for 8 years.... Because when they say flexibility, they mean it.. The proof is in the pudding, flexibility (without the guilt trip) = longevity! Sarah-Jane Thomas- Senior Consultant

02.01.2022 "Happy people are more creative and more productive. Some managers think that contented people arent the most productive employees, so they prefer to keep the employees a bit anxious about their jobs. However, there is no data showing that anxious, fearful employees are more creative or productive. Contentment doesnt mean sitting and staring at wall. Thats what people do when they are bored, and people hate being bored!" - Harvard psychology professor Daniel Gilbert.

01.01.2022 #Flashbackfriday to some of the Protege team celebrating Melbourne Cup Day at the Breakwater - We had no idea our office would be overlooking this exact spot 12 months later!

01.01.2022 While a lot of organizations use their phone screenings as glorified interview-scheduling opportunities, the better approach is to use these calls to rule out bad hires. That way, you can ensure that your organization is dedicating its time and resources to candidates who are actually worth it during the interview process. Why make the hiring manager waste half an hour talking in person with a clearly unqualified candidate when a proper phone screening could have knocked that candidate out of the running immediately?
