23.01.2022 Sending love and luck to all affected by fires today. Fingers crossed x
22.01.2022 Meanwhile back on the farmGetting our optimism on for a transformational life and business turning point! After such a heavy year, it’s a buzz to feel a spri...ng in the step and to be making opportunities from adversity. It’s been good to take the time to stop and smell the roses, be grateful and proud and appreciate our awesome team who are such an important part in all we do. Time to take back some control after such an uncertain and threatening period. With a view to encourage others to focus forward on what they do want not what they don’t, we’re sharing some of our quirky undertakings and new evolution down on the coast which supports our ACT endeavours - So, this is what (about to be) 2000 advanced deciduous trees look like from bare root to big boys in the not too distant future that will contribute to slowing down our changing climate. Many more to come..The existing nurseries are chockers full of natives that will beautify and restore our landscapes and the new 2Ha of growing space will house advanced trees and more natives the planet needs a stack of trees to help us all keep breathing so we’ll do our part in supplying and planting them. It’s heartening to know that the Brogo off grid water supply is now more secure and stored in tanks and we’re pumping with a solar pump. 300,000L more about to be stored at Tanja. YAY. Shame about the 1 million litres of polluted dam water we still have to deal with at Wandella post fires big sigh but chin up, it will happen. More solar panels installed and feeding back to the grid at Tanja provide income and free power (and it’s sssoooooooo cool to charge the Telsa for free). And the sexy little composting toilet / ablution facilities by our own design is just about ready for action. Oh the thrill of urine separation chambers. Giddy up the sustainable approach. Why wouldn’t you? The thousands of trees and shrubs we planted a couple of years ago to revegetate the property and gullies have bounded into life with a little kiss of rain and ripped contours are holding soil moisture. Yes to regenerative agricultural practices! There are hundreds of holes dug ready and waiting for deciduous trees to go in (something to look forward to Phil Callan and Nikki Roberts) that will provide shade, shelter, windbreaks and habitat and won’t explode in the next firestorm! And they’ll look super pretty . And we’re about to plant out another orchard with all manner of fruits (yes, more planting Phil) Master David Charlton has been making sheep, as you do! He’s crossed a Southdown and a Damara and now there are babies everywhere. They are so friendly, joyful and uncomplicated. Watching them play makes you realise how noisy our grown up people world really is and that sometimes you just have to dip out from the noise and appreciate the simple and delightful. Fell, the Maremma, is hanging with the geese whilst the other Maremma's chill with the chickens in the sunshine. Go the diversity What else.....oh yes, we’ve been growing a tonne of Oaks that are soon to be inoculated with Truffles.watch this space. And we’ve been doing trials for an indigenous bush tucker cropveeerrryyyy interesting And our PBR plant range 'The Provincial Collection' is now being trialled internationally. What a tenacious and clever ecologist you are Master DC to pull all this off The only things that didn’t burn at Wandella were the concrete fire shelters, aquaponics ponds and the metal tunnel house hoops. We’ve been reclaiming them and seeing them in their new homes is fantastically fulfilling. We’ve collaborated with our neighbours at Tanja and erected 2 so far on their property, Milford Acres, which are now heaving with fresh vegetables we’ll all be nourished by. Suck on that Covid we don’t need to go to the shops! Bravo to Megan Payne for getting them planted out and Danya Thompson for helping maintain them. Love it! Many more of these hothouses are now going into the new nurseries at Brogo. The burn marks on the metal are testament to rising from the ashes and reassuring somehow that life will be vital and light again, and that there is power in vulnerability and accepting what is. Sure does feel good growing stuff, making a difference in our own backyard and community and becoming more resilient in the process. Though so many of us are still a work in progress post loss and fear, we’ve got this! 22.01.2022 Planting back the indigenous and native vegetation in rural and urban areas is essential to protect our indigenous flora and fauna and to restore the resilience of the natural environment to change, but it would be foolish to ignore the advantages that deciduous plants offer to human safety in the advent of a serious fire. Really valuable information here on Deciduous trees for bushfire protection
22.01.2022 Nothing makes a cold winter morning a little brighter than hearing the patter of tiny feet.

16.01.2022 The next chapter in Provincial’s story has begun. Expansion of our Brogo nursery is now rapidly gaining pace.
14.01.2022 Provincial Pastures had the great pleasure of welcoming Year 3 students from Mumbulla School for a fun day on the farm. Lots of laughs and adventure were had (and important learning about restorative agricultural practices and the environment by default ) A busy morning included a ‘walk and talk’ around the (very dry!) farm, exploring our dairy, hand feeding the sheep and learning about the important work of our Maremmas watching over the chickens. Afternoon delights includ...ed being shown how we have been improving our farm, soils and water retention capacity and creating habitat through the revegetation of gullies. They ended the day getting their hands dirty doing native plant production and experiencing a bit of the great work our staff have been doing in the nursery. So great to share the knowledge with an enthusiastic bunch of open minded children from Mumbulla School for Rudolf Steiner Education and thanks to the inspiring Provincial team Nikki Roberts Phil Callan David Charlton and Jayme MacArthur
