25.01.2022 Women in Construction Pathways Program Australian School Based Apprenticeships (ASBA) Provincial has always been a strong advocate for women in construction, business and in developing apprentices who grow through the business. We’ve had lots of apprentices / trainees over the years and currently engage 8 of them, but having an ASBA is a first for us. ... Our own female co-founder, managing director and fearless leader is an industry role model for all the good that women can do in the fields of Construction, Horticulture, Agriculture and Education and we hope to inspire others in these areas via this program. Kudos to NAWIC ACT (The National Association of Women in Construction) in conjunction with the Australian Training Company (ATC) and the ACT Government who have created the ASBA Pathways Program. Provincial have created two new Australian School Based Apprenticeship (ASBA) positions for Year 10, 11 and 12 students. This will give young, enthusiastic women a taste of what it’s like to work in our industry. Participants will rotate through placements every 10-12 weeks to gain experience in a wide range of construction industry careers. Our first newbies start next week! This is an awesome initiative and we’re proud to be a part of it. The future is in our hands :)

25.01.2022 Nothing like a diversity of projects civil landscaping on a new subdivision one day and pink tailed worm lizard habitat restoration the next! I love that Provincial are expert in rehabilitation of grassland, shrubland and riparian environments and that we’re making a difference in our own backyard. Proud moment. Feels good doing good We have undertaken revegetation and rehabilitation projects since 2001 in various locations along the Molonglo river and Nature Reserves... (including the Lower Molonglo Nature Reserve, Kama Nature Reserve, the Arboretum, Molonglo River Corridor Stromlo, Royal Canberra Gold stormwater management, Lower Molonglo Water Quality Control Centre, Coppins Crossing, Point Hut Pond, Yarralumla Creek, Pialligo Ave, Coombs, Sullivans Creek, Scrivener dam and the Cotter). The region contains zones that support significant vegetation communities, flora and fauna species and the Molonglo River has a varying community of native and exotic plants - the bed and bank vegetation is quite dynamic in its composition and extent as it responds to disturbance by seasonal flow and storm events. We’re proud to be part of its restoration. For the past 4 years we have been heavily involved in multiple, large scale ACT Government projects within the Molonglo NES plan (such as Barrer Restoration, Patch K, Molonglo reveg, SPR, Patch N, Patch C and H). Provincial have enjoyed bringing our expertise to working on endangered ecological communities - in this case, the EPBC listed community White Box - Yellow Box - Blakely's Gum grassy woodlands and derived grasslands and in providing plant supply and habitat restoration for the Pink Tailed Legless Lizard (Aprasia parapulchella). Yep, all these things are real and true for us right now . Go the team that make it all happen x

24.01.2022 Got to love the before and after's yes? Always a thrill to see the results by our talented team whose work is the icing on the cake for this stunning development, 'Highgrove'. A bonus is the always great experience of working with some of our favourite clients, Bryan and Denise, at Connected Projects - developing win-win relationships is what it's all about.... More about them here: http://www.connectedprojects.com.au/projects/ "Highgrove is an elite development of three carefully crafted, architect designed homes set in one of the most attractive and leafy areas of Campbell. 24.01.2022 The evolution of our production nursery and sharing the true joy of standing amongst what will be a forest of trees with Mumbulla Mountain (Biamanga), sacred indigenous site, overlooking the proceedings. Pictures can't do justice. Over 3000 deciduous trees potted and it's just the beginning with further expansion planned. Annnndddd, drum roll.......it's all off grid (run on solar) and off mains water. Giddy up the sustainable approach to business. Super satisfying Can't... you hear the Earth taking a big breath and saying 'thanks Provincial for putting all these trees in me. Oh yes, more trees please'. We love helping the world breathe and playing a part in the effort to slow climate change. Trees are kind of like super hero's with the ability to provide an essential of life for all living things on our planet oxygen - and the power to remove harmful gases like carbon dioxide making the air we breathe healthier. Trees also store carbon dioxide in their fibres helping to clean the air and reduce the negative effects that this CO2 could have on our environment. In one year a mature tree will absorb more than 48 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen in exchange. More trees please!

Real change clearly can happen in a heartbeat and the policy makers have listened to the experts So getting back to Climate Policy and the need to listen to the experts....... I recently attended a fabulous virtual event hosted by Salon Canberra and Catherine Carter. Great minds and experts discussing climate - "Uniting behind science" with guest speakers @DrTayanahODonnell and @DrSophieLewis ...- you can view the recording of their presentations on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch Sophia Hamblin Wang shared an awesome "Flatten the Curve" infographic on climate change that begs the question why cant we deal with the paramount importance of climate change like we have reacted to Covid-19.........? Come on.....time to stand up and act

21.01.2022 Sending love and luck to all affected by fires today. Fingers crossed x

21.01.2022 We get a real buzz out of contributing our plants, know how and time to local community groups. Engaging with young kids and being part of inspiring them towards a healthy life and environment is a pleasure for us. Love the TCC presidents quote on the kids involvement because buy in makes all the difference - Having them physically planting and getting their hands dirty is really important. That way they can have ownership of the facilities, and build bigger bonds and connections. It makes them feel part of the community

21.01.2022 I want to say thanks to all our suppliers, colleagues and clients that have sent messages of support following the loss of our property at Wandella in the South Coast fires. Thank you. Also, because ultimately, as our industry intent is to improve environments and peoples experiences of places, our loss is by extensio...Continue reading

17.01.2022 ACT Healthy Waterways is a joint initiative of the ACT and Australian Governments to improve the quality of water entering our lakes and waterways and flowing downstream into the Murrumbidgee River system. The project includes the construction of infrastructure like wetlands, ponds and rain gardens as well as research trials, a community education campaign and improvements to water monitoring practices. This awesome project created in collaboration with #Huon on the Jerra...bomberra Creek forms part of the waterway rehabilitation works. These works are designed to provide both surface water quality improvement and to improve visual aesthetics through an increased diversity of native vegetation and reduction in weed species Our project flows towards the Jerrabomberra Wetlands Nature Reserve which is one of the most valuable wetland habitat areas in the ACT and is of national and international importance. A refuge for migrating birds from the northern hemisphere and inland Australia, Jerrabomberra Wetlands Nature Reserve is part of Canberra Nature Park, only 4kms from the City Centre. This well used recreational space in Narrabundah is created around water quality ponds and the scope included plant supply and installation, bird proof netting, topsoiling, dryland grassing and BSM, mulching, supply and installation of 15,000m2 of Coir Jute Erosion Control matting, installation of boulders, rock seating and furniture and ongoing maintenance More info on the ACT HW projects generally here: https://www.environment.act.gov.au//act-healthy-water/home The issues we have with poor water quality in our lakes actually start in the catchment with stormwater and run-off. ACT Healthy Waterways is important because its tackling the problem at the source. But water quality is not just an issue for environmentalists and governments. Water is a finite resource and we all need to take better care of it and manage it more effectively. Ross Thompson, Director of the Institute of Applied Ecology. Very proud to be doing this important work around Canberra

14.01.2022 Oh the joy of spending time with like minded people who are passionate about our environment and who are taking real steps on climate action to help us all avoid more catastrophic summers like weve just endured. Thanks Adam Bandt, Cathy Griff and Senator Mehreen Faruqi for acknowledging the important work we do, for bringing our ongoing experience of the bush fires and urgency for Climate Policy back into the spotlight, and for your plans to facilitate the continued large sc...ale ecological rehabilitation that is required to pull humanity forward. The recently announced Greens Recovery Plan includes the establishment of a Nature Fund which will address both the climate and environment emergencies. It will create 13,000 jobs and training programs in park and forest management, pest and weed control, visitor infrastructure, bushfire management, revegetation, ecological research and monitoring and management to protect threatened species and other wildlife. Oh yes please

14.01.2022 Bushfire Recovery, Design and Planting Resource list Hasn't it got hot....and wet...and windy...and hot....so we thought it opportune to share this Resource list As the Bushfire season approaches, many of us are still deeply affected by the 2019 / 2020 catastrophic events and moving through the recovery process. Life moves on and people get busy and preoccupied and when it’s not ‘in your face’ it’s often forgotten or ‘not real’. ...Continue reading

12.01.2022 Planting back the indigenous and native vegetation in rural and urban areas is essential to protect our indigenous flora and fauna and to restore the resilience of the natural environment to change, but it would be foolish to ignore the advantages that deciduous plants offer to human safety in the advent of a serious fire. Really valuable information here on Deciduous trees for bushfire protection

11.01.2022 A dramatic Canberra morning on a work site keeps things interesting! Weve been working in the Molonglo River Reserve with the great team at ACT Parks and Conservation Service in Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development to restore and enhance this beautiful place with 4000 local trees and shrubs that will create habitat, improve soil and air quality and provide recreational opportunities. We look forward to seeing the fruits of our labours as they establish and provide so many benefits to the ACT community.

11.01.2022 Arguably Canberras largest riparian reveg project over 4.5kms of the Molonglo now well underway. Awesome project team (led by a victorious Scott) now have 4 gullies stabilised, over 2000 hours of weed control under their belts (incl. some Weeds of National significance) and around 90,000 local species installed (lets see how all the bunnies go with them....) and are about to embark on a 2 year extended consolidation to ensure ecological outcomes are met. A very exciting (for the world!) and satisfying project

10.01.2022 Just look at this! How fabulously appropriate for every urban corner of the globe. How many of these have you seen in Australia....? And whats the excuse for not having them? As industry professionals affecting our community landscapes and built environment, Provincial believe we have the opportunity and responsibility to stand up and provide our expertise to make appropriate plant selections, undertake landscape and revegetation works using best practice techniques and ...assist in redefining outdated Specifications. Architecture and Landscape Architecture are inter-related. We must plan and construct buildings and landscapes more appropriately as current practice will not be future proof. We must restore our landscapes and make smarter choices about how we treat and use our planets natural resources. We must take personal responsibility for our part in all this and take action in our own lives. Step up!!! Please. And we must speak up about our changed climate and why the recent fires were so ferocious the science doesnt lie. Lets not get complacent now the fire threat has passed and were enjoying the rain. Lets proactively and positively design our lives and communities for the future. Were all in this together and need to co-operate and collaborate and not accept old ideas and policies that no longer serve us. Come on!!!! Lets do so much better, shake off what nots working and be world leaders in creating a better planet and pushing humanity forward, consciously. Provincial will but we cant do it alone. #nawicact #instituteofarchitectsact #andrewconstance #edwinarobinson #climatechange #riotact #hercanberra #catherinecarter #AILAact #climateaction #cathygriff #jododds

09.01.2022 Over the last few months the Jerrabomberra Wetlands’ volunteers and Senior Ranger Miriam Fokker have been busy planting 4000 local native plants grown by Provincial and donated to this worthy project by an awesome partnership between Provincial and BMD Group. 01.01.2022 Many people have asked how were travelling post fires. 6 months later so heres the story in pictures. The nursery, office, potting shed, machinery sheds and aquaponics systems have seen better days (big sigh...) and this is the last well see of them before the clean up. Quite beautiful in an extremely dramatic and very sobering way. Certainly character building to experience our place like this Stunning to see the dozens of hot house frames still standing in the blaze...d landscape. Staggered that the thousands of plants in these tunnel houses have disappeared into the ground ..... Lets not get started on the devastated landscape......other than to say the north east facing hills are completely denuded of regrowth, scarred and seared, the absence of bird and wildlife is palpable, the trees bursting with suckers remind me of where the wild things are and the whole thing brings me to tears frankly. The irony of 2 signs left unscathed slippery when wet and emergency evacuation point are not lost on us as we look to find the lightness and positives in this experience. David the Ecologist had time for a spot of seed collection (as you do) in the vegie patch thats re-emerging whilst assessing for the clean up required (another very big deep breath as we prepare to embark on that journey.....). Our PBR plant Lomandra dalliance has sprung back to life showing the resilience thats necessary to keep moving forward through this. This is a very big experience in a world where the wheels keep turning and its just the beginning. So the end of an era after 20 years growing and loving here and yet a new beginning for us as we look for the opportunities in all this

01.01.2022 Brandon Dean - celebrating 7 years with Provincial! Bravo Brando! Such a pleasure having you as part of our team - we really value all that you do. Big love and congrats from your PPL crew x

01.01.2022 "Canberras newest suburb, Whitlam, is nestled in the picturesque Molonglo Valley. Its location and topography provide views of not only the Brindabella Ranges but also towards Black Mountain Tower and the National Arboretum it is a beautiful suburb no matter which way you look". Provincial are proud to be partnering with BMD Group to undertake soft and hard landscaping on stage 1A. Whitlam has been thoughtfully designed for everyone with playgrounds, green spaces, bike ...paths and plenty of shared spaces providing room to play and explore. The whole suburb has been designed to maximise passive solar and minimise energy consumption. YAY. Weve grown 1200 amazing 100L and 200L advanced deciduous trees (that means big ones just to clarify and thankfully they didnt burn during the fires!), and 5000 shrubs that will beautify the suburb. Then there are the 8000 ephemeral species that will complement the pond area. Well install street furniture like seats, benches, tables, platforms and bike racks to enhance residents living experiences. Well undertake nearly 100,000m2 of dryland grassing, 3700m2 of mulching, and about 800m2 of various types of paving and edging. Then well maintain it until it establishes. Love this stuff! Its extremely gratifying to be able to create amazing places and enhance peoples living environments at such scale and am very proud of our most excellent team that make it all come together for a quality outcome even more so at this early stage when its all clearly so glamorous! https://suburbanland.act.gov.au/whitlam/estate-overview
