25.01.2022 Jolyon Edwards from the Cleaning Shop in Kew, will share how carefully he chooses his stock, his keenness for local products ( including the story of the Tumut millet broom factory) and mindfulness for the types of chemicals best to use in the home. He believes the biggest change to help clients is the the development of micro-fibre cloths - they gather dust better, are washable and more environmentally friendly than other products. Jolyon suggested the point of difference th...at his store provides when compared to larger hardware stores and supermarkets is personal services and better and different products. Whilst he has quite a following on his Saturday morning 3AW program, Jolyon shared with us his marketing philosophies and musings on social network costs. He mentioned some of the challenges facing retail business but is confident that his business will continue for many years. PM me if you'd like to join our Rotary Eynesbury meeting on Thursday 2 October, at 7 pm - we'd love you to join us...no cost, no commtment

03.01.2022 Login and listen to KERRY ANDERSON ON THURSDAY AT 7 PM.....PM ME FOR ZOOM DETAILS Do you know what makes an entrepreneur? And why are they so important to our future? In regional Australia the entrepreneurs walk quietly amongst us, but would we recognise them in our family, neighbourhood, school or workplace? And when we do identify an entrepreneur, what can we do to encourage and support them?... Passionate about small business and rural towns, Castlemaine Rotarian Kerry Anderson never tires of sharing her insights from interviews conducted with amazing entrepreneurs from all over Australia. Kerry is author of Rural Entrepreneurs Australia (2020) and Entrepreneurship: It’s Everybody’s Business (2016). In 2018 she was named one of Australia’s Top 50 Regional Agents-of-Change. She has also spoken at national and international conferences on this topic.
01.01.2022 Vaccine misinformation and hesitation threatens to prolong the impact of the pandemic and result in more serious illness and death. People are concerned about t...he risk of potential vaccine reactions but often do not have any way to compare the risks. The risk of serious adverse vaccine reaction (across all vaccines) is less than 1 chance in 1,000,000. The risk of death from a vaccine is much much smaller again. To put this in perspective here are some lifetime risks of you dying from everyday causes. Death in car accident 1 in 110 Death by drowning 1 in 1,100 Death by choking on your food 1 in 2,500 Death by bicycle accident 1 in 3,800 Death by sunstroke 1 in 8,000 and Death by dog attack 1 in 80,000 Death by adverse vaccine reaction, way less than 1 in 1,000,000 But while your lifetime probability of death by these things is between 10,000 and 10 times greater than the risk of an adverse reaction, you take those risks every day. We get in cars, we swim, we do things in the sun , we ride bikes and we own dogs but all are far far far more likely to hurt us than taking a vaccine. In fact, eating solid foods is 400 times more likely to result in your death than an adverse vaccine reaction. If you don't hesitate to eat solids, don't hesitate to get vaccinated.
