What's your crystal ball saying?

20.01.2022 Ironically, I’m always focused on publicising my clients that time is limited to do the same for myself and PR Shed but this month, I made my Marie Claire debut. Having met my husband before dating apps were rife, it's good to know I can swipe right for a brain date instead. Get stuck in friends!

20.01.2022 Happy Halloween. To celebrate, here's our favourite PR campaign we've seen so far this week... Exclusive research from the Beano revealed British kids would be dressing up as Boris Johnson for Halloween. The study of 2,000 British parents and their children showed over half (54%) of British families were drawing direct inspiration from Brexit for their Halloween plans this year. This has the hallmarks of a great PR story for the following reasons...... Calendar hook - Halloween Piggybacking the news - Brexit Releasing new stats/research - which the media love A variety of cracking photos given to different media outlets exclusively. What's happening next that the media will be talking about which your business can use to your advantage?

20.01.2022 Having worked in and around Surry Hills for the last 10 years and with PR Shed HQ ordinarily based there - I'm honoured to have been invited to join the board for the Surry Hills Creative Precinct Inc. In collaboration with City of Sydney, Destination NSW, The Surry Hills Festival, Transport for NSW, and lots of others, the role will enable me to highlight and support the vitality of Surry Hills and what a fabulous area it is to work, live and play! With the community currently facing unprecedented challenges, it's vital we work together to play our part in the city's progress and recovery.

19.01.2022 If you're planning on pitching your story to the media any time soon, here are some pointers to keep in mind...

19.01.2022 We are hiring! More info below.

19.01.2022 Coronavirus Crisis The role of a PR professional is often to pre-empt the worst-case scenario and then plan for it accordingly. Although Coronavirus is unchartered territory, as a business there are things you should be thinking about if you don't have a PR team in-house. Many of these pointers can be applied to any crisis situation. 1. Who might be affected by the crisis? Think about who you might need to tell if your product or service is impacted e.g Clients, customers, st...aff and suppliers. 2. What will you say to them? Address potential concerns and queries by pre-planning responses for a variety of hypothetical situations. The aim of the game is to ensure everyone is up to speed. Always deal in facts only. If you don't have the answers at any given time, explain you are trying to get them or direct them to someone else who is authorised to provide more detail. 3. What channels are you going to use to communicate with these audiences? Put together copy for each channel accordingly in the event it needs to be shared promptly. 4. Who needs to approve what you say? Make sure the relevant team members are available to sign off on anything that may need the green light. 5. Review existing messages you have in-market or are primed to go live - these may need to be tweaked or postponed. For example, if you have pre-planned your social media content a few weeks in advance, make sure there isn't anything contentious scheduled. The same can be applied to ad campaigns, EDMs and any other marketing materials. 6. Media announcements - is now a good time to share your news? Remember newsrooms are underresourced ordinarily and journalists' time is stretched. Unless your news is Coronavirus related or is essential breaking news otherwise, it's likely to fall by the wayside. If it can wait, then think about a more appropriate time to tell the world your story. 7. Question everything you are doing. Are you being socially responsible? If there's even a doubt in your mind, then don't do it. 8. Finally, wash your hands friends.

18.01.2022 We're proud to be providing PR support to the Keep Sydney Open Party in the run up to the NSW State Election. Lots of media in attendance at the press conference this morning announcing former Deputy Mayor Jess Miller, Tyson Koh and Jesse Matheson are in the running.

17.01.2022 5 simple ways to do your own PR. We gave the lowdown to our friends at Office Hub.

17.01.2022 THE LOWDOWN ON CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDES Listen up all product based businesses - we’re 3 months away from Christmas - the most lucrative PR opportunity of the year! If it hasn’t crossed your mind yet, it’s time to get your sh*t together if you want to be included in the gift guide placements. Some tips to get you started: 1. Imagery is key - Gift guides in print often use cut out images with a completely white or transparent background (minimum of 300 dpi), and those online love... high quality, aesthetic lifestyle shots. 2. Timing is everything - It’s good to get in early as most publications will start planning their Christmas gift guides 2 to 3 months in advance, especially the glossy mags. Online publications have a shorter lead time of about a month so you can hold off contacting them til later. 3. Research the publications - Think about which titles will reach your target audience and best suit the product you’re promoting. Have a look at gift guides from previous years to get a feel for what they’ll be planning for this year’s. 4. Perfect the pitch - Editors and journos will be receiving hundreds of products for consideration so make sure you stand out! Tailor your pitch to the person and publication to help build that connection and be top of mind when the time comes for them to put the feature together. 5. Contact the right person - don’t let your pitch get lost in the abyss, put a media list together with key contacts so you have your hat firmly in the ring. Contact us if you get stuck, we have a Christmas Gift Guide media list with a round up of all the best opportunities.

17.01.2022 This week lots of our clients have been out pitching their businesses to the media using our DIY toolkits. The coverage has been coming in thick and fast with features in the Sydney Morning Herald, Urban List, Concrete Playground, Broadsheet and more... A special shout out to Mobius Distilling Co. who have formally launched their Moreau Apple Pie liqueur which is going down a storm with the team at Delicious (and us for that matter - it's incredible).

16.01.2022 Doing good things gives people good vibes about your business. Socially conscious PR is on the rise and it's no surprise. Check out this beauty treatment app which has developed a life-saving wax.

15.01.2022 I had a chat with Balance The Grind about work-life balance and how I manage all things PR whilst wrangling two kids and trying to maintain some semblance of a social life. There are some really great interviews on the site with successful entrepreneurs from all walks of life - well worth checking out for a daily dose of inspo. I'd love to hear about your tips, tricks for managing productivity, as well as any essential digests below. Celia x

15.01.2022 Great to see MYND Studios featured on The Urban List ahead of their grand opening next week. Our DIY toolkits give you everything you need to get your biz featured in the media.

15.01.2022 Want to see your products featured in the media's Christmas gift guides? If so, it's time to get your arse in gear. Most of the glossy mags have theirs wrapped by October, newspapers and online publications aren't too far behind either. Here's six tips on how you can get in on the action.

14.01.2022 Here is a prime example of how you can use Google Alerts to spark ideas for reactive PR opportunities for your business. Fatboy Slim behind the massive track, 'Right Here, Right Now' would have been alerted to the fact that Greta Thunberg used the words right here, right now in her speech at the UN World Congress. The DJ has jumped on this and remixed her speech and his original track together, rallying dancefloors across the world to get behind the climate change cause. Millions of views in 24 hours already. PR gold.

12.01.2022 Extinction Rebellion protesters floated a sinking house down the Thames at the weekend to draw attention to rising sea levels. The public art installation was an 'SOS to the government on climate inaction.' Coverage on CNN, Fast Company, The New York Times, Dazed & Confused and many more. Why it works: a picture story with an iconic backdrop always resonates well with the media. It's not the first time something has floated down the Thames in the name of PR and certainly won't be the last. Could you execute a PR stunt for your business?

11.01.2022 Are you glued to the media? So is everyone else in these extraordinary times. Believe it or not, journalists are crying out for new stories both Covid-19 and non-Corona related. Do you want to see your business featured in the likes of the Australian Financial Review, Business Insider, Sydney Morning Herald, The Project, Sunrise or smaller industry publications?... We talk to digital news outlets, radio stations and newspapers across the country and beyond on a weekly basis and the media are calling us with opportunities for entrepreneurs, experts, authors, influencers, professionals and thought leaders. If you want guaranteed exposure to supercharge your business, comment below and we'll drop you a line to organise a 15-minute chat so we can hear what you have to offer.

11.01.2022 It's been a busy week at PR Shed HQ. Two massive events this weekend, Electric Gardens Festival and Picnic Surry Hills. Interviews with Sunrise, Studio 10, Nova FM, Nine.com.au, Daily Telegraph and more in the last 24 hours. Shoot tomorrow for the Sydney Morning Herald and that's all before gates open and 12,000 revellers roll in. Hope you can join us!

11.01.2022 Until this year, I was so focussed on client work (and parenting) that I didn't make enough time to PR myself, PR Shed and some of the amazing work we do. 2020 was the year to make amends, so while there's still room to do more, it was great to get involved with the Surry Hills Creative Precinct Inc Recovery Series and offer a few PR pointers, alongside other marketing and business experts. Take a look if you want to get some practical tips to help you as we navigate this new chapter. More webinars and events incoming...stay tuned.

11.01.2022 EMAIL SUBJECT LINE AKA HEADLINE Your email subject line is the most important part of your story pitch. Its the clincher as to whether its opened right away or disregarded. Reel the reader in, whether its a journo or anyone else you are trying to get the attention of.... Dont make it sound like an advert for your brand or use the word media release. The goal is to spark interest from the outset so you dont get lost in the email abyss. Death by email is real friends. Here are some tricks to spice up your headline: Add power words Use numbers Use statistics Combine two topics rarely seen together Ask questions --- Get the lowdown on free opportunities to publicise your business and boost your SEO. 07.01.2022 It was great to see Office Hub in the AFR on Friday, talking about the 'Evolution of the Office' and their latest report on the co-working industry. These guys used one of our toolkits and now successfully do their own PR. Congratulations.

07.01.2022 THE ART OF THE CHASE Its an age-old PR debateshould you send a follow up? How soon? By phone or email? How many times? Journalists are swamped with emails and even the best pitches can get lost in the shuffle. Often all it takes is a follow up email to ensure a great story doesnt fall through the cracks. If its a time sensitive pitch or a breaking news story, a phone call the same day can pay dividends, along with an email 24 hours later. If its a less pressing feature ...idea, a nudge 48 hours later is more appropriate. Try and action it during office hours for the best chance of getting a response either way. Follow up is an essential component of your PR strategy. Allow time for it. PR is labour intensive, as you often have to follow up with multiple people, multiple times. But when you land that piece of coverage it makes all the hard graft worthwhile. -- Get the lowdown on free opportunities to publicise your business and boost your SEO. Really excited to be working on Global Cities After Dark again this year, which is bringing government and industry insiders together to future proof Sydney's 24-Hour economy. 01.01.2022 The key to good publicity is doing something different to get people talking. Koala nailed it.

01.01.2022 Is COVID-19 heralding a new era of celebrity? Marcus Rashford a UK premier league footballer has been hailed a hero for getting the government to do a 120M u-turn on meal vouchers for poorer families. This wasn't a stunt to raise his profile while he's off the field, it was born out of genuine desire to drive change, born from his own experiences as a child. The last few months celebrities and influencers have faced criticism for displaying a lack of sensitivity to the bigger picture, as we all reevaluate what really matters in life. Now more than ever, those in privileged positions have a responsibility to do more for the greater good.
