09.01.2022 WHOLE FOODS TO STOCK UP ON - FROM AN AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE One thing for certain in life is the unknown which has never been more magnified than now right? And that’s ok for me when I know there are lots of things I can ‘do’, and ways I can ‘be’ to feel more relaxed, robust and ready.aha that’s RESILIENCE hey?! ... (Now there’s a key theme for 2020lots of R qualities interestingly hehe) Starting off with some practical actions. I’ve decided to gently acquire more food items and basically stock up a little on the essentials that allows me to keep my family eating a variety of healthy foods, should ‘shit hit the fan’ and access to grocery items become difficult. Therefore, no need to rush or panic, to feel lack or worry. can keep feeling positive and resilient. Here’s my list today, based on how I cook ayurvedically. What would you stock up on for an emergency supply? Or, what would you add? WHOLEFOOD STOCK SUPPLY Grains: Oats Wholemeal, stoneground plain flour or spelt Rice Quinoa Semolina Buckwheat Legumes: Split moong dal Whole moong dal Brown lentils, red lentils Adzuki beans Chickpeas Nuts & Seeds: Almonds Pepitas Sesame seeds Sunflower seeds Dried fruit: Sultanas Dates Sweeteners: Raw sugar, jaggery Raw honey Oils: Butter to make a big batch of ghee Olive oil Coconut oil Spices!!!! Here’s a yummy simple ‘whole food’ idea ...they are ALL ANTI OXIDANTS high in vitamins and minerals!! (see further below) Dried figs, Dried organic apricots or Dried prunes I know, nothing special? But have you eaten these beauties soaked? These larger dried fruit can be pretty tough, not just hard on a Vata’s delicate digestion or if your gut isn’t top notch, but so dry they’re not that flavoursome either. So... In the morning place a few in a bowl and pour over some filtered water to cover. Forget about for an hour or so and return to some super sweet and juicy morsels that are a perfect fix for a MID-MORNING or MID-AFTERNOON SNACK. BREAKFAST : Warmed up these soaked or cooked dried fruits make a delicious light breakfast. Vata people will enjoy the extra nourishment from a teaspoon of ghee melted in.
