13.01.2022 EXAMINER ARTICLE TODAY 3rd September 2020 To Members, supporters and friends of Pssac, The Expressions of Interest process at the completion of the Clubs 5 year licence term may be viewed as a blessing in disguise, as confirmation that NCYC are interested in managing the Sailing venue moving forward if awarded the licence by Port Stephens Council.... After the recent public community support the chances that Council will award the licence to anyone other than an established Sailing Club is unlikely. With the Clubs host regattas either cancelled and unable to be run due to Covid 19, limitations on community hire outs and pressures on admin volunteers in the current environment to keep the Club functioning properly, a change to strengthen the venue into the future could be a seen as a real positive on numerous fronts as detailed in the article. If successful, and as per the article NCYC would seek to strengthen sailing activities at both local and national levels that the Club has worked on for many many years, and including the LTS programme and the needed improvements to the Club building and facilities to benefit all sailors and the community. NCYC is a very successful Club with great depth of sailing and administrative resources and could build on the legacy of those PSSAC volunteer members some 40+ years ago who set in concrete the site for many future generations of sailors to enjoy. With the Clubs Sailing season getting underway and planning to be done we hope a decision by Council on the successful applicant is forthcoming soon. 10.01.2022 To PSSAC Followers and Sailors Last Friday 9th October we were advised by Port Stephens Council via email that Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club were the successful proponent nominated by the assessment panel following the EOI for the Sailing Club building. Our submission to the EOI clearly fell short in not being able to meet the Councils new financial requirements , with an anticipated extra operational cost to the Club annually estimated to be at least $10-15K not includin...g the Licence Fee. It was disappointing to learn that as a very long standing Community Asset PSC were not prepared to continue to take on these financial responsibilities instead of passing it on to the next licensee. With that said, the Covid 19 pandemic outbreak and resultant extensive restrictions placed by NSW Health to curtail the spread of the virus has had a significant financial impact on most small volunteer run sporting clubs during this time, and with cancellations of regattas, nil fundraising avenues available and the continued restrictions regarding the Seaview Room Hire club resources have been squeezed. However, on a positive note, continued sailing will be enjoyed from the Club House in its entirety, social and competitive sailing will commence again, perpetual pssac sailing trophies will continue and a Sailing Academy is to be established. With the EOI outcome now known, we will initiate discussions with NCYC regarding future Membership arrangements and boat storage and other dealing to enable a smooth transition. A vibrant and strong OTB Sailing Club is the common goal. NCYC has a large professional administrative sailing group with many resources available and the financial capability to care for the Club House and develop and promote dinghy sailing further on Port Stephens including the Hosting of regattas on Salamander Bay, an important outcome for the wider Port Stephens economy. This is an extremely positive and favourable way forward to secure this amazing site as a community asset and continue to develop sailing and aquatic sports for the Port Stephens area well into the future. The Executive will be meeting with the NCYC Board members soon to establish some firm proposals on the transition process and once this has been sought and discussed with the committee, members imput will be requested with the appropriate notification given. The Club wishes to thank all Members for their patience during this period, and a special thank you to Australian Sailing, the many Sailing Class Associations, local community members and past pssac members for their support. To the future .......

10.01.2022 EOI UPDATE Dear Members Supporters and all Sailors, Last Monday, (nearly 5 weeks since the Councils EOI closed) we emailed PSC and copied in the Mayor and others to seek a response as to a time frame to a decision on the Licence. ... The sailing season is well underway and forward planning during this unsettled period regarding Club activities, host regattas, Seaview Room bookings and fund raising is near impossible even while we continue to pay a monthly licence fee to Port Stephens Council. The Clubs fixed running costs continue to be met. A follow up phone message was left as no response was forthcoming. We are hopeful that a response from PSC in writing will be gained this week so there is some certainty for the Club some 3 months post the previous Licence expiry date. We also note that many regattas are being re planned and or are underway due to the easing of the NSW Public Health Orders regarding sporting gatherings and forwarded to all Members by Australian Sailing. We will update all Members via email when more is known when and if a response is recieved from PSC... Sincerely L.MacPherson President PSSAC

03.01.2022 A timely Examiner article highlighting the challenges in the current environment ..... Unfortunately , small volunteer run community sailing clubs are facing similar uncertainties in the loss of normal income streams due to Covid 19 and the most recent Public Health Orders closing the options of hosting State regattas. The options to fundraise do not exist and distancing regulations limit [email protected] options.... What are the solutions PSSAC Member...s........or are we all social distancing. 01.01.2022 Good luck to all NS14 competitors at their 2020 Nationals After Covid setbacks this year the State Titles will return to Port Stephens 2021
