24.01.2022 DUBBO AREA NURSING A couple of months ago Jacqui came to me wanting to do some work on her existing website. The focus of the business had changed slightly over the past couple of years and there needed to be more focus on certain services. We talked through what she was wanting and began work. A lot has happened since then *cough* (the covid roller-coaster), working from home (with our children) and a new baby born (FYI Jacqui is a bit of a rockstar).... 11.01.2022 Did You Know? Using a pre-made template for your website can actually be detrimental to your online presence. For a start they are not unique. A template website is usually the lowest cost option for getting a site on the web quickly, and great website templates are often downloaded by hundreds of users.... They lack flexibility and are difficult to customize. Most DIY users are unable to customize templates to suit, so they end up with something that doesnt quite fit (a bit like Donald Trumps suit this week). Search Engine Optimization. Heres the big one, a few things contribute to this, but they are usually padded out with tonnes of extra stuff that you dont end up using. 09.01.2022 They say mechanics drive the worst cars. The same can sometimes be said for website developers and their websites. I launched this little business in January and told myself Id have a couple of quiet months to get my own material up while I generate actual client work. Oh how wrong I was. This little business hit the ground running and hasnt really stopped. The whole time Ive been repeating that little saying about mechanics. Were now halfway through May. So I decided it... was time to stop being like a mechanic. We now have a webpage (not a full website, baby steps) to give you an overview of who I am and what I can do for you. Unfortunately when it was rolled out as a standard font on Windows Computers it began appearing everywhere: Hospitals, Police Stations, Schools, churches, even universities! So, when is it appropriate? 1. When making a comic 2. Designing something targeted at young children (primary school aged)... 3. If your audience is dyslexic and have requested Comic Sans as their preference. 01.01.2022 I M P U L S E D E C I S I O N S Weve all made them, this fabulous specimen is one of my best and worst. I was 5 years old,school photos were the next day and I decided I no longer wanted to have a cow lick. I took the kitchen scissors and chopped my fringe. I did a horrible job, but damn it turned out alright. The big thing is, I lost nothing from the experience, but look at what I gained... this fantastic photo and the look of horror on my mums face burnt into my memo...ry. So, what has this got to do with your website? Well, Ive had a lot of phone calls over the past couple of weeks from people wanting to shift their entire business online ASAP. I get it, the world is a very uncertain place right now, and there are a whole lot of people out there telling us we need to be online. Its do or die. But is it? I dont think so, I think now is a great time to improve your online presence. But, for many it may not be the time to invest valuable resources into a whole new website, online store or platform. Right now Im working with people to improve what they are doing, increasing their online offering in stages so we can see if its going to be a hit before we invest big time and money. Now is not the time for big impulse decisions. Now is the time to plan. If youre uncertain about what to do, or feeling pressured to expand when youre really not sure there is a market, lets have a chat.
