25.01.2022 Look what just arrived in the morning mail! *happy dance* I hope you like it. We have more this time about Ruth, Jane and Tinker. Hugh helps them solve a myster...y of their own back in Melbourne. Phryne and Dot meanwhile head off to the spa country and find themselves with more mysteries than the mind can comfortably imagine. And by general request Lin Chung returns in a gorgeous cameo. These are Author's copies only. But the Oz launch is next month. USA fans, you're getting a special de luxe USA edition (still under construction!) and that comes out (I believe) on June 1st.
22.01.2022 thanks for posting Karen Turley
18.01.2022 Collecting Agatha Christie Experiences: Travelling in her footsteps: a theme we've periodically visited. For her coming out 'season' in 1910-1911, the young A...gatha stayed for 3 months at the Gezira Palace Hotel in Cairo, formerly the Palace of Khedive Ismail it was built in 1869. It became a hotel in 1894 and was operated by the same firm that owned the Orient Express train. Here Agatha attended dances, polo matches and potentially sought a suitor. While she wrote her first novel here based upon her experiences during this trip - Snow Upon the Desert - it has still never been published. Still open, currently as the Cairo Marriott, significant original sections of the Palace can still be enjoyed today, just as Christie did. 18.01.2022 series of books by Derek Pugh
17.01.2022 from Liz Hallows AusAPT Member This book is a "must read and recommendation" to counsellors who help others to recognize toxic patterns of behaviour in themselves and others. Understanding the concepts in Meredith's illuminating book can stop victims of verbal abuse from going crazy thinking these behaviours are normal , acceptable and deserved by them. Of extra importance is Meredith's chapters describing NOT A BITCH qualities in leaders and her excellent overview of Jungian... concepts explaining 8 mental functions of consciousness underpinning the 16 Personality Types sorted by the questionnaire called Myers Briggs Type Indicator. Mean Girls do develop into Bitches in their homes, our schools and our workforce. I advise parents to purchase, read and learn from this expert text and use it to understand these common behaviours because they are models for their daughters and sons. Thank you Meredith for your generational gift helping to improve our world. See more
17.01.2022 Delighted that I am involved in this
12.01.2022 Aaahhhhh.... yes. Just done exactly this.
11.01.2022 We recently shared the painting of Agatha Miller (Christie) as a young lady by Nathaniel Baird which garnered a lot of interest, so another seemed in order! To...day's painting is of an even younger Agatha - aged 4. Painted in 1894 and believed to be titled "Lost in Reverie", by Douglas John Connah (1871 - 1941). The painting can still be seen in Greenway and is owned by the National Trust. It is an oil on canvas (117cm x 90 cm) and high resolution copies can be bought from the NT collections website. Background: Agatha's father was a wealthy stockbroker (Frederick Alvah Miller) and American. The artist, Douglas John Connah, was New York-born, a friend and possibly even a relation of Christie's American grandparents. Connah was the pupil of the American impressionist painter, William Merritt Chase (18491916). The portrait was most likely painted in England and is thought to be the work exhibited by Connah at the Royal Academy of Arts in London in 1894 under the title 'Lost in Reverie'. The RA listing stated: CONNAH, J. Douglas Painter. 8, Margravine Gardens, W. 1894. 372 Lost in reverie, but no image was captured at the time.
11.01.2022 Quiz time: In the original montage by Tom Adams, titled "The Mystery of Agatha Christie", created for the TV documentary of the same name starring David Suchet... and featuring Tom Adams, the artist included 27 distinct pictorial details, in addition to the portrait of Agatha. These details included references to people, places and things important to Christie during her life, as well as numerous images from original paperback covers, and one image related to a book title, but unused. Can you find and name them all? An image identifying each element has been provided. Good luck. 11.01.2022 Collecting First Editions: My favourite first edition to own is "Dumb Witness" (Collins Crime Club 1937). Aside from the periodic portrait of Christie on the ...rear panel, this is the only book that ever had a photograph of anything personal to Christie on the cover - in this case her own dog Peter. While Peter was standing in for the character "Bob", his image appears on the cover, spine and rear of the jacket. Because of this, many agree this is the most endearing of her books to own. While the true in first in jacket is incredibly rare and is worth upwards of 20,000 ($26,000), there are many affordable way to acquire a version of this book - such as the 2007 HarperCollins reprint. 08.01.2022 For all the writers on this page. Though I'm rather thinking the 'episode of debauchery' might be worth revisiting?
