24.01.2022 **THE CHANGING SEAS** There is more bounty, more possibility for us in a vista that moves, rolls, surges, twists, rears up and changes from minute to minute. The innate human feeling from the veranda is that if you look out to sea long enough, something will turn up(Tim Winton) #timwinton #changingseas #psychology #playtherapy #psychologyandplay #psychologyandplaytherapyaustralia

23.01.2022 Let's reflect on the sensory environment our child therapy space. How does this promote cues of safety? Or could our space lead the child to feel sensory overload and overwhelm the child? If a space is over-crowded and has too much to do, it can activate a child’s threat response system and make it difficult for them to engage in the therapeutic process. #playtherapy #psychology #psychologyandplay #psychologyandplaytherapyaustralia

22.01.2022 Discover what you think can be a toy or an experience within play, and become comfortable with these items! Discover what you think can be a toy or an experience within play, and become comfortable with these items! Although it is important that children are provided with toys and experiences to express themselves, our play kits do not need to be overly extensive or a stress. We are able to work therapeutically with a small range and number of toys, and get creative with wha...t we use! Some ideas could be: - Sock puppets - Shoe box doll house - Create characters with wooden clothes pegs - Pool noodle as a sword - Fabric as dress ups #play #playtherapy #psychology #psychologyandplay #psychologyandplaytherapyaustralia

16.01.2022 **WEEKEND WONDERING** **THERAPIST REFLECTION PROMPT** "..silence is not the absence of sound but the presence of an inward-listening awareness, an attunement of the mind’s ear and an orientation of the spirit toward a certain inner stillness..." (Katrina Goldsaito)... Therapist reflection prompt - how do you harness silence in therapy? How comfortable/uncomfortable are you sitting with the silence with your clients? What does this mean for your client's therapeutic process? #silence #silenceintherapy #psychology #playtherapy #psychologyandplay #psychologyandplaytherapyaustralia

15.01.2022 **WEEKEND WONDERING** "To be ourselves we must have ourselves possess, if need be re-possess, our life-stories. We must recollect ourselves, recollect the inner drama, the narrative, of ourselves. A man needs such a narrative, a continuous inner narrative, to maintain his identity, his self" (Oliver Sacks) #weekendwondering #psychology #playtherapy #psychologyandplay #psychologyandplaytherapyaustralia

12.01.2022 Great news from the Federal Budget with Government announcing a doubling of Medicare-funded psychology sessions for the next 2 years.

10.01.2022 **FINAL ONLINE WORKSHOP FOR 2020** This workshop is one of our most popular! Attend live or via the recording afterwards.... perfect if you're looking for some PD over the Dec/Jan period. This workshop demystifies the ‘how to’ of trauma recovery therapy with children by providing a robust clinical framework for the therapeutic process.... Key learning objectives Apply principles of trauma-informed practice and the 3-Phase Trauma Therapy Model to the trauma recovery process. Build practitioner awareness of which phase(s) their work with clients is located in, and identify and sequence therapeutic goals accordingly. Integrate the use of the 3-Phase Trauma Therapy Model with play-based therapeutic approaches and principles of the Play Therapy Dimensions Model Revised (PTDMR). Participate in reflective and experiential activities to enhance integration of theory to practice. Who should attend? This workshop is highly relevant for psychologists, play therapists, social workers, counsellors, occupational therapists etc, although its principles are applicable across the community services sector for those working with children and families who have experienced trauma. 07.01.2022 Providing children with the opportunity to engage in messy play is an important aspect of their therapeutic process. Messy play is a sensory experience that helps children explore disorganisation and a lack of control, and therefore develop a mastery over these feelings. Messy play materials are also important for a child to engage in self-expression. How we can engage in messy play within the parameters of a workplace is a consideration. Are there creative ways that you can ...provide materials and still respect the space? Messy play is an important for children’s sensory exploration, visiting feelings of being out of order ad developing control over this and self-expression. Some ideas could be: - Having a messy mat - Watercolour rather than paint - Creating one designated space for messy play #messyplay #playtherapy #psychology #psychologyandplay #psychologyandplaytherapyaustralia

04.01.2022 Within play, each and every toy and experience that is provided is a way for children to express themselves and communicate. As child therapists, we should aim to provide children with an abundance of ways to do this. In the realm of Play Therapy and therapeutic play, the child-therapist relationship is the primary agent of change that supports the child and their family. It is important that we feel comfortable within our space and with each material we provide, so we are a...ble to stay engaged and use our presence in a meaningful way. During this holiday season we invite you to have a play and exploration of some old toys, new toys, messy toys and simple toys. Discover what you think can be a toy or an experience within play!
