02.01.2022 On the left is a normal functioning spine, On the right you can see a bulging disc and all the nerves that are being affected because of inflammation, causing pain in the butt and down the leg or tingling in the feet, it doesnt take much and they pain can be agonising this is why stretching and staying functional is so important as to not tighten up and cause injuries.... Why hold a stretch longer than 10seconds??? Did you know the Sensor in the tendon of a muscle is called the Golgi tendon organ? When we stretch our muscles for periods longer than 7 seconds it activates the golgi tendon. Which sends a message to the brain that inhibits muscle activity in an opposing muscles. e.g after holding a hamstring stretch for more than 7 seconds the Golgi tendon sends a message to your brain which as a result reduces muscle tension in the quads (opposing muscle) allowing for a deeper stretch back through your HAMMIES!!!
