17.01.2022 Its been a while since I wrote a blog. Like, ages... Part of me ran out of time, part of me wasn’t sure if they were effective, and then I just got out of the habit... Then some shit went down. A global pandemic knocked us all onto our collective asses. As a gym owner and strength coach in a stage 4 lockdown, I found myself in a very unfamiliar situation. Sure, I trained at home, its not like I don’t have access to equipment. In fact, the lockdown was probably one of the best... things to happen to my training in quite some time. See, in 30 years of being an athlete, I’ve never NOT trained. I refuse to take days off, quite often to my own detriment, but if I am nothing else, I am stubborn. However now, instead of running a gym, constantly watching people train, or being interrupted mid-session for some programming questions, I was able to fully focus on getting my own stuff done. I’m not gonna lie, it felt good. My weights started going up again, I started packing some muscle back on, but most of all, it removed all the peripheral distractions that I hadn’t realised were preventing me from training like a focussed and driven athlete. It felt like the old days of just me and my best mate Neil, just rocking up to our gym and not leaving till we were absolutely cooked. My lockdown training wasn’t just a series of daily sessions, it was a rediscovery of my old training self. Not the coach, or the gym owner, not that I don't love being that guy, but it was all built on the back of being an athlete. The athlete that wants to then share his love of training and his passion for helping people. During the time away from the gym, I remembered why I loved these physical pursuits in the first place. I remembered how good it was to train like a fucking savage, day in, day out, and I made it a habit again. Thats the thing about habits, isn’t it? Slooooowwwwly we drift out of them, we don't even realise. A small exception here, a little excuse there. But, by the time we are honest enough with ourselves to take responsibility for our own decline, it often takes a huge effort to get ourselves back into the routine we should have never let slip in the first instance. So we are back, and despite all odds we have been back for a while now. Not everyone has been so lucky. Or maybe I’m just stubborn. I got back into the gym post lockdown in the right mindframe, knowing I will never let my intensity slip again. I expect it from my athletes, and I will lead by example. That is a commitment I take very seriously. ...and the blogs are back. I’m back in the habit. Dan

16.01.2022 Given my role as a strength coach, a lot of my time is dedicated towards motivating my athletes to train harder, go faster, reach new levels of intensity in their training. My job is to bring the best out of my athletes in a way that pushes them towards their goals in the most efficient and effective way possible. Now those familiar with my ideals as it relates to overtraining and intensity will know that in most cases you will not get a pass from me just because you’re feeli...Continue reading

10.01.2022 7 years ago today I opened PTC Rowville! A new endeavour, a new brand, a new challenge. It was scary but exciting, a huge departure from the small studio I first started in Dandenong 12 years earlier. It has definitely lived up to expectations. During this time we have had some serious ups and downs, I'm not even going to mention the C word...but have always come back, bigger, stronger, better. I have had the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing people and pers...onalities. The people that are the heartbeat of our culture, and the soul of OUR gym. Rowville's own little barbell club, away from the treadmills and the mirrors and the social media clout chasers, where the only thing we give a shit about is how much sweat is dripping off your head at the end of your session. Are we the last bastion of old school training and attitude? Probably not, but I love that we're still holding down the fort. While many things have changed in the 7 years we have been going, how I feel about training is not one of them. Rule 11, anyone? So 7 years down, who knows how many to go. This day last year I was sitting at home with the gym shut, not knowing if we would ever make it back. Pretty scary shit. But, if I learned anything from that time away, it was just how much I valued everything my gym and the people who train there contribute to my life. I will never give that up. So a heartfelt thankyou to everyone who has made PTC Rowville what it is today, all the people who have contributed to making my childhood dream a living reality. Every single person who has ever set foot in the door and picked up one of our barbells. We will be here for a long time to come. The coming months will be full of changes and developments so keep your eyes peeled... Happy birthday PTC Rowville. Now stop reading and go pick up something really fucking heavy. 08.01.2022 Tomorrow, we are back!! Its been a long wait but we are finally able to reopen our doors as of tomorrow! Given that we are still under restrictions, all training must be done via arrangement so that I can manage the numbers. So if you are keen yo get in the gym, please contact me first As of tomorrow I will also be making changes to the staffed hours of the gym for the time being. Moving forward, general training times will be 2pm-8pm Monday-Friday... Coaching is still available from 6am daily, but any training outside of the new hours will be private 1-on-1 bookings only. This change allows me to open up my private coaching schedule a little more, so contact me ASAP to make an appointment! See you all back in the gym! Dan

04.01.2022 Coaches can be pretty protective over their training beliefs and methodologies. After all, these things are their strategies and systems that they use to help their athletes. I can’t just go giving away all my ‘secrets’, right? This is the information that separates me, the coach, from the uninformed general public. Gotta keep myself in a job, after all. So you might imagine that when it comes to my programming, the numbers and the percentages and the RPE’s and the spreadshe...Continue reading
