22.01.2022 A mad scientist, a house full of weird creatures, and a severe storm approaching! Can YOU help prepare? Before The Storm is an educational game for middle year ...students designed to get us thinking about storm preparation and disaster resilience. While the mad scientist builds a world-conquering robot, his hapless cyborg offsider tries to prepare the house for storms. Help iGor search the house to find all the items he needs for a disaster/emergency survival kit, then use these items to prepare and repair the property, before and after the storm hits. The game plays over four stages: 1. Storm preparation 2. Storm threatening 3. During the storm 4. Clean-up after the storm Before the Storm is available free from iTunes Store by searching for Before the Storm or via https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/before-the-storm/id496753593

19.01.2022 Two hikers have been found safe after they took a wrong turn in Mt Remarkable. The man and woman left the Mambray Creek campgrounds for a hike around Mt Remarka...ble at 9.30am yesterday morning. When they hadnt returned at 9pm, a concerned person from a neighbouring campsite advised Police. Police along with SES, began searching the area and at 3.45am, SES members located the pair safe and well near Alligator Gorge. The pair had misread a sign and taken a wrong turn, becoming lost. Luckily the pair were well prepared for the hike and were carrying food and water to last them the evening as well as extra clothing. Police remind the public to ensure they are prepared for any hiking or camping activity, that you have sufficient supplies and that you notify others where you plan on going, your planned route and the time you expect to return.

Issued at 5:28 am Tuesday, 11 August 2015. A strong front approaching Eyre Peninsula will cross South Australia today, with a developing low pressure system moving northeastwards to be near southern coastal areas tonight. The front is expected near Port Lincoln mid morning and the Adelaide area early afternoon. Strengthening northwest winds ahead of the front may reach gale force during the morning, averaging 50-65 km/h with gusts of about 90 km/h over the higher parts and eastern slopes of the Mount Lofty Range, parts of Lower Eyre Peninsula, the far south of Yorke Peninsula and Kangaroo Island. Localised wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h are also possible, mainly with showers and thunderstorms. These winds may cause damage to property in parts of the warning area and make road condition hazardous. Locations which may be affected include Ceduna, Wudinna, Port Lincoln, Mount Barker and Victor Harbor, and later in the day Whyalla and Port Augusta. 18.01.2022 **** Would you know what to do if lights and sirens are approaching? **** DONT PANIC! If an emergency vehicle is approaching and is sounding an alarm or showi...ng flashing lights, you must move out of the path of the emergency vehicle as soon as you can do so safely. Heres some tips: Again, do not panic. Slow down, but do not brake rapidly. Use your indicators. Be aware of other motorists. Do not move suddenly or move into the path of the emergency vehicle. Move as far to the left of the road as you can and come to a stop. If you cannot move left safely, stay where you are and let the emergency vehicle drive around you. #ShareTheRoadCanberra

17.01.2022 Yesterday afternoon, Sturt SES volunteers responded to assist a koala rescue organisation. A koala was stranded in a dead tree above a body of water created fro...m recent rains. 16.01.2022 This weekend marked the first of 12 Polaris Rangers being distributed across the state to assist with incidents such as Land Search. Strathalbyn will be home to one, and we (along with several other units) will be contributing to the development of training for the service.

16.01.2022 We are aware that much of the state has currently lost power due to the extreme weather across South Australia. At this stage we do not know when it will be res...tored. Our crews are responding to multiple calls for assistance as a result of the winds causing trees to fall and damage to buildings. The bands on rain is also causing localised flooding as they pass. If you have requested assistance, please bear with us as we work through the requests which are being regularly reassessed and prioritised. If you no longer require SES assistance, please call 132500 and advise our communications team that the job can be cancelled.

14.01.2022 Thanks to the other vessel coming to their aid initially.

14.01.2022 Well done to the guy that went out and to everyone else involved stay safe

13.01.2022 Save the app that could save your life. With more than 65% of emergency calls in Australia coming from mobile phones, knowing your exact location to tell the T...riple Zero (000) operator is crucial. The Emergency+ App available to iOS, Android and now Windows devices, uses a mobile phones GPS functionality so callers can provide emergency call-takers with their location information as determined by their smart phone. The app includes the option of calling the SES 132 500 or Police Assistance Line 131 444 numbers along with other relevant national numbers, such as Crime Stoppers and Health Direct Australia to speak with a registered nurse so non-emergency calls are made to the most appropriate number. You can download the app from: http://www.triplezero.gov.au/Pa/EmergencySmartphoneApp.aspx

09.01.2022 New laws that require road users to travel at 25 km/h when driving through an emergency service speed zone will come into effect on Monday (1 September). The em...ergency service speed zone will help protect frontline workers and volunteers from the CFS, MFS, SES, Police and SA Ambulance while they carry out vital emergency work. Volunteers and emergency services staff are often called on to provide life saving assistance at roadsides, or it may be that a police officer has pulled over to question a driver. By slowing down, we can all help them to safely get on with their job. The 25km/h Emergency Service Speed Zone applies on an area of road: In the immediate vicinity of an emergency service vehicle that has stopped on the road and is displaying a flashing blue or red light; or Between two sets of flashing blue or red lights that have been placed by an emergency worker at either end of a length of road on which an emergency vehicle has stopped. It does not apply if you are driving on a road that is divided by a median strip and the emergency service speed zone is on the other side of the road beyond the median strip. All new members have had intensive tra...ining in rescue techniques used by the SES in its continued support of the Port Pirie Emergency Services and wider community. This training compliments recent certification of a licensed coxswain for the Sea Angel rescue boat, two new MR truck driving licenses and three new chainsaw operator certifications recently acquired by SES members.
