16.01.2022 A new architectural map guide from London-based publishers Blue Crow Media, charts the importance of concrete architecture in Melbourne. Through Concrete Melbourne Map, edited by Glenn Harper, Senior Associate architect and urban designer at PTW and with photographs by Clinton Weaver, the concrete architecture of the city is celebrated. In the words of Harper, this map guide confirms how building modern architecture in concrete fortified Melbourne’s urbanity. From the pione...ering 1950 off-form concrete Standhill Apartments and the sublime below street level courtyard office block for the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne, to the Victorian Arts Centre and the expansion of the city’s historic cricket ground, the selection of significant 50 architectural projects demonstrates that Melbourne is a city committed to embracing its urbanity through concrete. Also authored by Harper is the 2017 publication Brutalist Sydney Map, which aimed to affirm the value of these buildings and to inspire further consideration of concrete and Brutalist architecture today. 14.01.2022 As we navigate our ‘new normal’ the past few weeks have tested and enhanced our ability to thrive under remote working conditions not only from a design, client engagement and on-site perspective, but also from the aspect of keeping office culture alive and feeling connected. Our already cutting edge IT systems, collaboration platforms and virtual operations were further enhanced to meet the heavy loads on the system, ensuring that when all of our 100 strong Sydney team wor...ks remotely we can still deliver those tight deadlines and complex projects with the highest quality. Through virtual site visits (or in person following strict pandemic protocols) we're keeping our excellent track record on-site as our projects continue to come to life. As we close each week and connect digitally over drinks, we look forward to joining together with the broader architecture and design community to continue our exploration of new, innovative ways of collaborating with our clients and colleagues to bring great design to life. #PTWArchitects #COVID19 #businessasusual #architecture #remoteworking #stayconnected #collaboration #virtual #innovation #newnormal #gamechanger

02.01.2022 Design excellence competition winner, 221 Miller Street has recently been completed. The 21 level mixed-use residential development located on the leafy Miller Street boulevard in North Sydney is an architectural composition that is articulated into two distinct parts: a serviced apartment podium featuring angled portals framing the east and west facing glazing; and the apartment levels wrapped with triangulated perforated aluminium panels. There is a pedestrian through-site ...link and visual connections via a generous forecourt fronting Miller St. The project includes 100 hotel style serviced apartments in the five level podium, with a 16 level 169 apartment residential tower. The interior palette has been selected to respond to the exterior fabric of the building.
