24.01.2022 If you've been into the clinic recently you may have met our second group of fourth year OT students Pamela and Emilee. Emilee loves chocolate and walks in nature and when asked why she is interested in paediatric Occupational Therapy she said "I would love to have a positive impact on children's lives and I love the fun and spontaneous energy that children bring". Pamela's favourite food is pizza and she enjoys singing in her spare time. When asked why she is interested in ...paediatric Occupational Therapy she said " I love the unique imagination and energy that children bring to the world". Emilee and Pamela will be with us until the end of June and will assist with individual clients as well as participating in group sessions. They are very excited to be here and gaining valuable experience in paediatrics.

24.01.2022 Period swimwear. Awesome option for girls not yet confident or ready for tampons. No need to sit out on beach days!

21.01.2022 Who’s been watching Lego Masters?? I heard Gabby is an Occupational Therapist. Too bad her and Ryan claimed the block of doom! Let’s hope their luck improves soon.

21.01.2022 First jab done and dusted this morning. The Wayville Vaccination clinic was super organised and efficient. Great to see people doing their part to protect our community.

21.01.2022 Did you know our popular Well Girls puberty education program for girls with autism is now available as a self-paced online program??? For $197 you can purchase the program, consisting of 9 modules, and undertake it at your own pace, anywhere, anytime! Don't forget, if you're a self or plan-managed NDIS participant you may be able to claim the cost of this program through your NDIS plan. It's completely created and delivered by Australian OTs. Speak to your plan manager to check your funding eligibility. https://bloomwellbeing.teachable.com/p/well-girls

20.01.2022 Sooooooooooooo..... Part of my job today is literally to come up with a list of slang terms for male and female genitalia. So I need your help!! I've got a few images below - can you list under each one any alternative names you know of for these body parts. YOU MAY NEED TO EDIT/OMIT SOME LETTERS SO WE DON'T GET BANNED FOR INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT!! eg. "Pen !s"... Curious to hear what you come up with!

19.01.2022 Have you heard of Boom Cards? We've been using them a lot in our telehealth sessions during lockdown. Not sure what Boom Cards even are? They're digital decks of learning cards which are interactive, so kids can choose answers and take actions with the deck during a telehealth/Zoom learning session. We've found them so popular with our telehealth clients that we've decided to start making our own for others to use!... If you're a teacher, OT, health educator or home-schooling parent, you might want to check out our store. We'll be adding more decks related to puberty over the coming weeks! https://wow.boomlearning.com/deck/q-MqCufPzKXNoAWF4jq

18.01.2022 Sensory bottles for the win!! These little bottles of glittery goodness are always one of the most popular activities in our Well Girls puberty education program. We always seeing how different each bottle turns out. In our regular Foundations program we make these in session 6 where we talk about big feelings and the ways we can manage our emotions. Don’t forget we still have spaces available in our term 4 program, which starts next Wednesday! DM us for more information.

18.01.2022 Important message for anyone who attended Woodville High School on Monday.

15.01.2022 Hi all, Please have a look at this list to see if you've been to one of the contract tracing locations of interest. As of 7.30pm tonight several West Lakes and Port Adelaide locations have been added, including the West Lakes Shopping Centre, and the Port Adelaide Plaza. If you have attended any of these spaces at the mentioned times, please follow SA Health advice to isolate or monitor symptoms, as appropriate. One of our staff was at West Lakes Shopping Centre on Sunday du...ring the timeframe listed. She is currently asymptomatic, and the SA Health advice for this site is that self-isolation is NOT required, but just to monitor symptoms. However, given the nature of the work we do, and the increasing number of western suburbs locations in the contract tracing list, I have decided that we will be cancelling all face to face sessions for the remainder of this week (at least), and all our staff will be working from home. If you have an appointment booked with us for tomorrow, Thursday or Friday, your OT will be contacting you either tonight or tomorrow to discuss with you your options for a phone or video consult, if possible and appropriate. We appreciate your patience with us during this time. We are taking this step as an extreme precaution, but we feel it is the socially responsible thing to do. We will be reviewing this situation on a daily basis and will be advising our clients for next week of what will be happening, early next week. Thanks again for your patience and cooperation. Sarah

13.01.2022 Just found this review of Piper Gets Her Period! Thanks for sharing Amazing Me Education - make sure you find her Amazing Me https://www.amazingme.com.au/book/piper-gets-her-period/

12.01.2022 Last week our wonderful OT Maddi ran our first ever school holiday intensive Well Girls program - a new way of presenting our full 9 week program, condensed into a 4 hour workshop! We often have enquiries from people who can’t make it to the weekly sessions due to geography or their busy schedules, and this one day event gives more girls the chance to undertake the program. This session we had participants come to us from as far away as the Barossa and the Adelaide Hills! ...The condensed version covers around 80pc of the full course content, and about half the practical activities - the girls all went home with their own period kit, bath salts and a sensory bottle. We’ve already booked two intensive days in for the January school holidays - one each for Foundations and Next Level programs, so make sure you contact us if you would like more information. We do also still have spots available in our term 4 program, which will be held at 4pm Wednesdays, starting week 1 of term. Contact us for bookings.

11.01.2022 We have a last minute availability for our NEW Well Girls Move Program, starting this Saturday! Email [email protected] to take up this opportunity. Well Girls Move is a physical based social group, for girls aged 8-14 with autism, that will provide activities, games and information to take home based on our overall physical wellbeing.... Each week will incorporate opportunities for gross motor development as a major focus - with different forms of movement and ball skill games incorporated throughout!

11.01.2022 We are excited to share our Well Girls January School Holiday Program schedule! We are often asked about holiday programs as some people live further away or have other commitments that make it difficult to participate during term time. NOW is your time! Book now to avoid missing out as places are limited.... Further information can be found on our events page https://www.facebook.com/pubertyplus/events

11.01.2022 Did you know we're now averaging about 10 group programs every term across our two locations? Plus a couple of intensive groups each holidays? As well as our popular Puberty Plus groups for autistic and neurodiverse tweens, we also run other groups for kids of all ages, focused on movement skills, social skills and emotional literacy and wellbeing. Check out the colourful new groups page on our website to see the full range of groups. ... https://www.bloomwellbeing.com.au/group_programs/

10.01.2022 What do you want to know about us?? I'm currently preparing a webinar about our programs for the KYD-X virtual conference being held this Saturday. So I'd love to know - what would YOU like to know about our programs? Or if you've already had a loved one attend our programs, what did you most want to know before you signed up - or what would you like prospective participants to know about the program?? For those of you who are interested, our webinar will be held at 2.10pm on... Saturday - visit the KYD-X website for more information and to register your (virtual) attendance, free of charge. https://kyd-x.org.au//puberty-plus-programs-by-bloom-well/

08.01.2022 Are you a Wise Owl? Scared Squeaky Mouse? Or Angry Bull? Session 13 of the early learners version of the What's The Buzz? program helps kids to learn how to be assertive - ie. learning how to be a 'Wise Owl', rather than shying away and hiding from difficult situations (like a scared squeaky mouse), or losing your temper and acting aggressively (like the angry bull). Our lovely OT Kate, decided it would be a great idea to create some club badges for all our kiddos who go thr...ough the program, so they can be inducted in the Wise Owl Club during this session. I love seeing how our staff use their creativity to engage kiddos in these programs. And a big thank you to @Mark Le Messurier and Madhavi Nawana Parker (Positive Minds Australia ) who are the creators of the @_whatsthebuzz suite of programs. We love how they make their programs so accessible to therapists and educators, and how they encourage us to use their curriculum and adapt it for our own communities. They're so generous with their knowledge and resources. Ps. We've just added an extra primary age What's The Buzz? program to our schedule for terms 3 and 4 at Port Adelaide, as well as the Teen program we have scheduled for term 4 at Salisbury. Let us know if you'd like more information - or check the events tab to see our full range of programs currently scheduled.

07.01.2022 After a busy day with KYD-X Expo yesterday we are looking forward to sitting down with a nice cuppa today. We'd love to know which one you would rather - tea or coffee, comment below #selfcaretasks #autismparenting #occupationaltherapy #takeabreak

06.01.2022 Currently obsessed with LEGO Masters Australia so I keep including Lego activities in my client sessions. We made this marble race yesterday, and my daughter wanted to give it a try when she visited the clinic today!

06.01.2022 Has your daughter taken part in our Well Girls Foundations program? Is she keen for more Well Girls, more learning and more opportunity to meet new friends? This holidays we are running our 4.5 hour intensive Next Level program, which continues on the learnings from the Foundations program. It will be a fun filled day, with activities including smoothie bar, kindness rocks and making face scrubs. If you're keen, please DM us.

05.01.2022 Have you noticed a change? We are excited to announce our new logos! Puberty Plus is our new brand. It encompasses our original flagship Well Girls programs, as well as our new Being Boys program, which is due for its maiden voyage in Term 1, 2021. While we may look different, our great content, staff and service remains the same. We are expanding our offerings based on feedback from you, our clients. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.... Credit to Skai from Tickled Ink for the fabulous logos and branding - thank you!

05.01.2022 You might have heard about the controversy surrounding Sia’s new movie, about an autistic woman, in which she cast a non-autistic actor in the lead role. If you don’t understand what the big deal is about this - please read the attached post by autistic actor, Mickey Rowe. It's an important read. We need more diversity and representation in all forms of the arts and media - including films and television. It’s not okay to keep casting non-disabled people into disabled roles.... People with disabilities or who are neuro-divergent aren’t props. They aren’t talking points to be gawked at, mimicked and discussed from a distance. They’re living, breathing human beings, with their own individual strengths, quirks, weaknesses and desires - and plenty of them want to be actors, musicians, playwrights, authors. To have thriving, lucrative careers in this highly competitive industry. So here’s my message to the film and TV industry: It’s time to do better. It’s time to let go of your preconceived notions of ability, disability and neurodiversity. It’s time to let people be a driving force in the narrative of their own stories. We don’t need more movies and TV shows ABOUT people with disabilities or neurodivergence. We need more movies CREATED BY AND STARRING people with disabilities and neurodivergence.

04.01.2022 Hi all - so it looks like restrictions have changed again! If you're a client and you have an appointment with us next week, either in clinic, or at school, we will be contacting you on Monday to confirm your appointment. If you have an appointment on Tuesday, you may have received an sms re your appt this morning - that was our automatic sms appointment reminder. Please disregard that for the moment. We will confirm on Monday - just in case things change again! For school b...ased appointments, we also need to confirm with the schools to check that they are happy for us to come in. Thanks again for your patience. ps. Any sessions cancelled for next week due to Covid issues will not attract cancellation fees.

03.01.2022 Happy Star Wars Day!!! In honour of #maythe4thbewithyou we want to know who your favourite Star Wars character is. Baby Yoda is the fave in my house right now - and yes, I know his name is Grogu and yes, I know he’s referred to as The Child, but he’ll always be Baby Yoda to me.... Previously Princess Leia and Chewie were up there on my list! Sarah xx via Ferfriky on Insta.
