21.01.2022 We can liken the lack of real debate or discussion about important issues in Australian society today to a cone of silence that descends on the polity. Look at the issue of housing affordability as just one example. Public housing has been slowly privatised over the years. Once upon a time, low-income workers could rent affordably in public housing. Those days are gone. The homelessness epidemic is another symptom of this privatisation. By using stamp-duty revenue, state gove...rnments could spot purchase homes and once again invest in public housing. A home for all. We could solve homelessness in a relatively short period of time. But where is the debate on these kind of life-and-death issues? And what part does the corporate media play in fostering this cone of silence, indulging instead in the trivial and the spectacle? Think about it. Change comes when YOU decide to get involved in these issues. We implore you to join PIBCI today - www.pibci .net Let's join together and register as a federal political party. Let's start kicking butts and knock them out with good ideas. Thanks for watching.
18.01.2022 The Australian economy has a problem: all our eggs are in one basket. The Chinese basket. Our economy relies on farming and mining exports, along with consumpti...on. That's about it. We don’t manufacture any longer. The economy is sluggish. Lowering interest rates, quantitative easing, helicopter money these are all short term ways to stimulate the economy. But we at PIBCI have an idea that will stimulate the economy permanently. It's a simple solution that can be solved by every state and territory parliament across the nation. We’re talking about quarantining stamp duty, that 4-6 % tax paid to state governments upon the purchase of a property. Victoria raised $6 billion in stamp duty in 2019. The federal government could recompense state and territory governments for quarantining it. A mixed economy (public and private) is the most functional kind in a capitalist society. It creates real competition and prices drop. To take just one example, stamp duty revenue could be quarantined for investment in public housing. This would solve most of the homelessness we see and hear about in Australia today. Homes could be spot purchased around the country. The interminable public housing waiting lists would be gone within a year. Within a decade, 20% of Australians would be living in public housing. And public housing can be whatever we want it to be... How does quarantining stamp duty and investing in public housing stimulate the economy? With decreased rents (25% of income), people are free to spend their money on other goods and services. It increases people’s buying power. With the private rental market not as dominant and good-quality public housing a real housing option, people will be less inclined to rent in the private market and private rents will fall. Housing prices will also fall, enabling more people an entry-level home. All this can be achieved through a simple legislative process. Check out this week's PIBCI video for elaboration on these ideas and more. Thanks for watching. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWxC6LVlnfc&feature=youtu.be

07.01.2022 PUBLIC HOUSING IS FOR EVERYONE WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY A HOUSE During the past two decades the philosophical basis behind public housing has been radically altered. When public housing was first introduced after the Second World War (after a sustained campaign by returned service men and women who demanded public housing), access to public housing was determined by whether people could or could not afford to buy a home in the private housing market. Unfortunately in 2020 acc...ess to public housing is restricted to people who are facing homelessness. Today the Victorian State government can’t even provide people who are homeless with accommodation. Not because the government doesn’t want to, but because the private accommodation models they have embraced do not work. JOIN THE STEPS TO A HOME public protests on the steps of the Victorian Parliament (cnr Spring & Bourke St, Melbourne) at 5:30PM 6:30PM on WEDNESDAY 5th, 12th & 19th February 2020 at Midday 1:00PM on WEDNESDAY 26th February 2020 Put public housing back on the Victorian and Federal Parliamentary agenda JOIN US & make public housing a critical issue during 2020.
01.01.2022 Post from Jojo Spanner - "If the government does want to provide accommodation for homeless people, people wanting affordable housing and emergency housing, why do they leave public housing estates vacant, like the one with 300 apartments in Abbotsford St Nth Melbourne that was emptied of tenants over a year and a half ago?"
