24.01.2022 With summer on the way, it’s important to plan ahead and reduce the risk of heat exhaustion or heat-related illness. When things start to heat up, remember: ...Drink water regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty Wherever possible, avoid going outside during the hottest part of the day (11am-3pm) Try to eat cold foods such as salads and fruit rather than protein-heavy foods that could raise body heat and increase fluid loss Always have a hat and sunscreen handy if going outdoors Use fans and air-conditioners at home to keep cool, OR try to spend time in air-conditioned public spaces For more information on managing the heat, visit: https://www.getready.qld.gov.au//types-natural-di/heatwave [Image description: A senior lady at home, holding her hands to her head.]

20.01.2022 Despite the best efforts of police and media, the unnamed elderly woman who was left on a bench seat outside the Nambour Hospital on September 6, has gone unrec...ognised for over three weeks. Our Chief Executive Mark Tucker-Evans told the Courier Mail this highlights some of the challenges older people face. Particularly if living alone, some of our older people are not connected to their community and can go missing or unfortunately pass away, while nobody is there to notice that they’re missing or gone. Communities need to look out for our elderly. If you recognise this woman or have any have information for police, contact Policelink on 131 444 or use the online suspicious activity form 24hrs per day at www.police.qld.gov.au/reporting. 07.01.2022 I am an Executor, what do I do? An Executor is responsible for administering your estate after you pass away. 07.01.2022 What happens to your digital footprint when you are gone? Your digital presence is any place you may appear to still be after you are, well - not. For most of us this means social media accounts such as Facebook, Instagram etc., as well as email accounts and places where your financial details could be exploited such as PayPal and eBay. Make a list of places you exist: Think about social media accounts, forums, shopping sites and anywhere else. Check your emails and jun...k mail for hints as to places youd need to de-register. Make a list of your usernames and passwords: Its not safe to store this sensitive information just on your hard drive, so look to using a secure online service for this like a digital asset vault. Include instructions for accessing this in your Will: Your Will should contain details of who will be executor to your estate, so within this you can include details of how they can access your digital credentials. Leave instructions on what to do: Many relatives think that a memorial page will be nicer than just deleting you off the face of the web, but do you agree? Make sure you tell them thats what you want and make your wishes known. #WillsWeek2020 #WillsWeek #makeyourwishesknown

02.01.2022 "Always Was, Always Will Be. Always Was, Always Will Be. recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. ...We are spiritually and culturally connected to this country. This country was criss-crossed by generations of brilliant Nations. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Australia has the world’s oldest oral stories. The First Peoples engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremony and invented unique technologies. We built and engineered structures - structures on Earth - predating well-known sites such as the Egyptian Pyramids and Stonehenge. Our adaptation and intimate knowledge of Country enabled us to endure climate change, catastrophic droughts and rising sea levels. Always Was, Always Will Be. acknowledges that hundreds of Nations and our cultures covered this continent. All were managing the land - the biggest estate on earth - to sustainably provide for their future. Through ingenious land management systems like fire stick farming we transformed the harshest habitable continent into a land of bounty. NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact whether in 1770 or 1606 - with the arrival of the Dutch on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. Our coastal Nations watched and interacted with at least 36 contacts made by Europeans prior to 1770. Many of them resulting in the charting of the northern, western and southern coastlines of our lands and our waters. For us, this nation’s story began at the dawn of time. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history of this country - which is Australian history. We want all Australians to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and to recognise that our sovereignty was never ceded. Always Was, Always Will Be." - NAIDOC.ORG.AU #NAIDOCweek #NAIDOC2020 #NAIDOCWeek2020 #NAIDOC

01.01.2022 Advance Health Directive An advance health directive (AHD)sometimes called a living willis a formal way to give instructions about your future health care.
